Morning all, £58k between me and OH. All on credit cards and loans. Was absolutely awful when realised the extent and that we couldn't pay it back.

  • I went bankrupt owing £90K when my business collapsed and my wife filed for divorce. Up to that point we were making all of our payments and had never defaulted. We were still solvent as the house had enough equity to cover the debt. But as I had signed all the paperwork for the debts, my ex-wife washed her hands of it leaving me to deal with it alone.

As my half of the equity didn't cover the debt any more I was forced to go bankrupt. My ex-wife still blames me for somehow not finding the money out of 'thin air' so she can keep the house and possessions all to herself rather than deal with the trustee in bankruptcy.
