They were when my daughter went. My daughter and her pals are very militant and despise the gov and their pals. They object to the fact they have to pay for their education and woe betide anyone who disagrees with them. In their book anarchy in the UK is still at the top of their agenda.;)
    aahh,
different system up here in Scotland. We don't pay for our education, it's free for all, and there is no requirement to take out a student loan. I know lots of students who have part time jobs and don't take out the loan. The government passed new legislation in 2004 that prevented student debt being included in BR as the SLC is a non profit making government body, so essentially it's taxpayers money. Can't be seen to be writing it off ;)

Can I just ask any of those with really high levels of credit card/loan debt (say above £100k) if they are now on BRU/BROs as a result?

I'm not judging in any way (my own BR was ultimately down to my financial incompetence after all)...just curious as to how it's viewed.

    Hi Custard cream,
No BRU/O's for us as apart from our repossession shortfall, all credit/loans we had were pre 2004 and we had been on a dmp with payplan since then.;)

£22,500 .. loan, overdraft, 4 credit cards and a partridge in a pear tree.
Excuse my bizarre sense of humour, the partridge is e-on (least said about them the better).

Forgive my ignorance but what does BRO/BRU mean ?

I make no excuses, not for myself or for the creditors who clearly knew i was on income support but had the golden carrot of 2 disabled peoples benefits.
    Still out of it now.

Between the two of us we owed £32,000 and I'm embarrassed to say we have nothing to show for it - their were no fancy holidays,no big cars or flash tv's infact it was just spent on living a very simple life! I wish I could work out where it went but I can't but at least now I know exactly what we have, what we spend it on and why!

I know the feeling, i had a credit card to the tune of 8k which was almost exclusively spent on food. I have nothing to show for it either, besides 2 denim skirts i wash and wear one at a time.
