i can't decide if I find Hillards comments on the people who obtain refunds when they have been overcharged funny or not. i am like countless others who have only just found out about the policy and if tesco want to have this policy then they can honour it as far as i am concerned. before i found this site i have lost count of the number of times i came home from a weekly tesco shop grumbling about the mistakes on the receipt not realising the policy was in place. not any more.0

And all the other retailers plus a good few official notices not to mention web and printed matter. I wasn't picking on Tesco in particular I have been down on hands and knees more often in DIY stores
The point I was making was that not everyone can read the small print, but as spa2k rightly points out when space on a sel is limited the price takes precedence. But I do think that in this age of media/promotional companies should realise that even in this country there are a lot of people out there who have some form or another of reading disability.0 -

Hi, Can anyone help me please. I was in Newton Aycliffe last night with my daughter and saw the shelf lable that said ipod shuffle 1gb-discontinued £68.92. Inside the holder were 2 boxes for ipod nano 1 gb. They didnt have a shelf lable or boxes or spaces for ipod shuffle 1gb so presumed it was for the nano. Took it to the price checker and it came up at £108.62. Is this a miss price and eligible for an r+r. Am a newbie to all this. Thanks Colin.0

No, afraid not, as the boxes did not refer to the shelf edge label.
For it to be a potential r & r the product would need to match the tickets description and scan at a higher price.Who or what was I before you came in to my life
I am not sure0 -

I honestly do not believe anyone is "officially" trawling through internet forums for missprice information. There are far easier ways to get more accurate information. The problem is in dealing with issues outside of normal routines - the human element.
I have had my share of surly CS staff. I have also had my share of surly customers. Real problems seem to kick off when you get one of each
In general, Extra's and Superstores will charge the same. As will the majority of Metro's. Express stores and Metro's in inner-city locations have a different pricing structure, in consideration of their higher running costs. Tesco, unlike another chain whos name escapes me, do not price regionally.
My understanding of r & r is that it was brought in when Tesco moved from individual price tickets to barcode scanning, to give confidence in the fact that each can of beans would no longer have its own little sticker. Does that sound right to you Hillards?
I stand corrected on the difference in price between store types, apart from the inner-city Express that is, where things always seem a lot more expensive for some reason...
Back in the days when I was on the shop floor you would be lucky to find a tin of beans with a price sticker on as they were classed as fast moving and we had to know the price on the tills. But yes, you have the correct understanding of why it was brought in - or rather, nicked from Hillards when they took the chain over as that was our initiative long before barcodes!
Every Hillards had the policy that if there was a problem with something, not just overcharged, then the customer could bring it back, get a replacement and their cash back. A very confident approach, until people abused it by bringing back half their ruddy shopping at a time:- half a pack of weetabix (they taste funny), an empty milk carton (had to tip it down the sink, it was off), a bread bag (was mouldy), part bag of sugar - opened correctly but strange pencil shaped hole in the side (it leaked out before I got home) and so on - some stores ended up refusing the persistant ones, which then got them into bother with area managers.
Oh, and not to dismiss surly customers - yes, they do exist, even if CS staff can't actually say so at the time. Had more than my fair share of those.0 -

I don't think I intended them to be 'funny', in either sense. I was simply saying that it was up to them, if they can live with the guilt of taking back 7,962 packs of cola to gain a full refund AND get to keep the goods, when most people would only take one or two. That is abuse of the system in my book, but I only get to have a say on the subject, I can't change what they are doing as Tesco allow it (although I read someplace that it's now limited to 5 of an item?).
I too have suffered a lot of overcharging over the years and used to make a point of getting the refund where applicable. We noticed things even more as we were part of a consumer panel who had to scan all the goods again before we put them away, noting any BOGOF or money-off offers, extra quantity in pack, free item with product and everything like that. So, we would make a point of writing down the offers we took up and could then enter them into our scanner - which is when we found the incorrect info.
That panel membership was OK for a while but by the time you've got through all the shopping, from two trollies piled high, the frozen stuff has melted, there's no room to move in the kitchen as everything is now stacked up having been taken out of the bags and if you left the scanner unattended too long it would bleep at you to say it was getting lonely, or needed input, or putting back on it's cradle.
Anyway, suffice to say that we only used to get the price difference back until we learned about R&R - and have not had ONE since that time! We're no longer on the panel so perhaps don't check as thoroughly.0 -

You may find some stores not honouring the offer as its not technically a misprice
It is a misprice!
The large SEL clearly states "all varieties"!
My wife got refused on Thursday evening for 1 pack so I went back on Friday got 2 more packs and the TDK DVD's and then got my refunds.
Clearly stated that I got 2 more packs as POS material was still there!
Refunded no problems.0 -
I have spotted numerous items (meat, fish) where the SEL and pack price per£ both match but the price per kilo is a penny more expensive on the pack than on the SEL. Eventhough only a penny difference, any views as to whether this should constiture an R&R or not?0
