Hi the 2 stores I go to have all their scanners "out of order" - is it a ploy?
I've mentioned it to staff, but they're not bothered - how do I get them to fix it?!?

The scanners are an obsolete technology for which at present replacements are impossible to get and therefore they cannot be fixed.
It is not a case of staff are not bothered, there is simply nothing they can do about it.
And no, it is not a ploy.Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!

But, if it was Tescos, and within 3 miles (1 mile for London), I would be returning to Tesco to reclaim my "double the difference" as per their policy. And Badger the hell out of them if they did not change their price to match-=Mr-J=-0 -

Josie,
I have seen scanners that have been out of order for months eventually fixed.
I've also seen new scanners installed.
But in fairness to Mr T it must be fairly low down the priority list.
No conspiracy that I'm aware of.
Cheers

Odd_Fellow wrote:Please explain to me why you believe that it is wrong to remove the SEL rather than change the system price? How do you KNOW it's cheaper elsewhere? To have established this, you must have looked or have been informed by somebody who has looked.
Tesco has a uniform pricing policy that should ensure that products are the same price in all stores. Unfortunately, this fails regularly and commonly on situations where stores have been lapse in replacing SELs or simply haven't been given updated SELs to put out.
However this dosen't remove the point which, as you clearly state, is customer choice. We all regularly buy things that we are unaware are on sale at a lower price less than half a mile away. How many times have you filled your tank with fuel, paid up and then within a few miles seen it for a penny less per litre? How is this any different to your "poor unsuspecting customers" scenario?
Because tesco are meant to have a uniform price policy as you quite rightly say and some stores have the offers in and others don't - which doesn't make it very fair now does it. I would expect to pay the same price in in one local tesco as another. The poor unsuspecting customers are those that are unaware they are being overcharged - and that (especially for more expensive items) they could get it cheaper just by going to a different tescos store - who happen to be on the ball with their pricing. Now how many people really think they should need to check the prices in tescos between different stores to make sure they are paying the lower price- and if you think it doesn't matter then you must be being paid to much.:rotfl:Red Hot by name, Red hot by nature. :rotfl:0 -

It appears that you have misunderstood the way that the pricing system works. There is a central price that most stores will charge for any product. High value or low value it makes no difference. The price that is indicated on the SEL will make no difference to how much you are charged at the till, it is simply an indication of how much you should be charged. One store may get all of its labels complete by 7am whereas another may not finish until 2pm, it really doesnt matter, you will still be charged the price stored on the system irrespective of what it says on the label - it is then the pricing integrity departments job to ensure that the labels match the system. The price will very very rarely fluctate during the course of a day.
I would be interested to see what stores have offers that dont appear in others. It is a rare occurance for stores to have differing promotions.Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!

I would be interested to know then should the bogof be the same across different stores - i shop at two particular tescos in cleveland, depending on which one i am nearest after work, and often they don't have the same bogof offers??? I also notice that some of the bogof misprices e.g hula hoops which is a recent one - and in my local stores they aren't on a bogof offer. MAybe you would be able to advise furhter on this.:rotfl:Red Hot by name, Red hot by nature. :rotfl:0 -

How can it be that the SEL makes no difference to what you are charged at the till because it is only an indication of what you should be charged? So basically you are saying - SEL says 19.97, this is the indication of what the price should be, item goes through the till at 22.97, oh dear only £3 out, but this is o.k because the SEL was only an indication not a correct price??!?!?!?0 -

As previously said, this DOES happen because the stores don`t want to have to do further r&r, i obtained an r&r for the hula hoops which did not go through at two for 2.50 at one Tesco`s, they removed the offer straight away, when i visited a few days later the offer was still off, but in another Tesco just down the road the hula hoops were on offer two for 2.50. So this is clear that the first store kept the offer off and reverted them back to 1.68 a packet to prevent further r&r`s on them. I even told another lady who was about to buy them when i was in the first store after they removed the offer, " i would`nt buy them here, they are on offer two for 2.50 at the other Tesco`s!!!!!!!!!!!! She was quite surprised that they could be selling them at different prices, but she put them back and off she went.0
