it was only a matter of time with the amount of blatant abuse of the policy by some that we see on these threads every day. I'm just surprised it has taken them so long!

As usual the minority spoiling it for the majority because they can't control their greed

Although I don't go looking for R&R's specifically, I have benefited from a couple when I've checked things back home. We used to be on one of those consumer panels when you scan in your shopping, but it was getting too much of a time waster - often resulting in melted frozen foods by the time we had finished!
However, I've suffered from being followed around my local tesco Extra (Doncaster) by security following an incident a couple of Christmasses ago - I'd better explain the story:
A week before Christmas, pay day, went to Tesco Extra. Two big carts full of shopping, totally almost £500. No 'past record' of R&R I hasten to add. Everything went through till and I made a mental note to check a BOGOF that didn't seem to have registered. Anyway, wife hands over her Platinum card and operator does her stuff, but it came up with a message that the card holder had to contact the issuer. Not because it was over limit, there was well over £4K available at the time (although I'm sure she's spent more than that using it since!).
Pressed button to flash till light but no sign of a checkout supervisor. Pressed several times in space of 5 minutes, still nobody came. Queue behind us had moved to other tills, tutting... Eventually she got the guy on the next till, who had no queue by then, to go find someone. Supervisor arrives after about 10 minutes waiting, inserts key, gets bill and takes us and shopping to CS desk. We called the number given from there and everything was OK, wife just needed to complete a security check as she had been using the card a lot that day - it was payday after all, bills and other shopping...
So, supervisor goes to CS till and scans the original receipt - oh dear, it's now 10 past 11 at night - their end of day had gone through and our 'saved' bill had vanished!
Knowing tat we had to pick up daughter from work at 11.30 we refused their kind offer to re-scan everything, saying we did not have time to mess about like that and had to go.
Wife went to car in tears, having been shown up at checkout in first place with queue behind thinking she was trying to use a dud credit card or something, people at CS desk looking at us stood there with two trollies full of goods and security man making sure we didn't try to make a run for it before card was checked etc.
I demanded to see the manager, and it took a further 8 minutes or so to find him (was timing it by now). Wife went to collect daughter in meantime, came back for me after.
He listened to the tale, checked that everything had been OK with card after security check, apologised and said they would re-scan etc. I pointed out wife had left store and it was her card so I couldn't pay for goods.
Told manager I wasn't happy that it had taken so long to find someone to sort this out and that it was now half an hour after we were at checkouts, ready to pay.
Anyway, left store and waited outside for wife to arrive. Got home and wrote steaming letter to local Tesco. had to go back 2 days later and do it all again, although they were then out of stock of lots of things we had wanted... I had bought some CD-R's on a BOGOF, offer had ended and didn't want to pay full price.
Finally got a letter back, explaining again the end of day procedure and apologising. Sent £20 voucher for inconvenience. I went straight up there, saw duty manager, showed him letter and said it wasn't good enough as we had had to make another trip to do a really big shop and it was time wasted, plus embarassing time at till and CS desk. Was told to write to Dundee, they gave me address. I sent original letter and voucher, saying it was an insult...
Got a letter back a week later saying they were investigating matter and would be in touch. Never heard a darned thing after that. I wrote again, no response.
Next time at local store I asked to see manager for copy of letter they had sent me, as original had been sent to Dundee (yes, we should learn from mistakes like this) - they couldn't provide one.
Anyway, next few visits resulted in being watched closely by security, I could feel them wherever I went in the store and even looped the loop round an aisle to check, yes- sstill there.
So, what had we done wrong ? It was their problem, we never got anything out of it - even the voucher went to Dundee so that wasn't spent. Did we pose that much of a threat to them, bearing in mind we were still shopping at their blessed store!
I emant to follow up further with Dundee, but it was then over 2 months since the incident took place and we didn't have anything to prove that it had even happened.
As some folks may note by my avatar and username, I was almost part of the Tesco empire many years ago, but left just before the merger. In those days we ran R&R on the same lines, any problems - not just overcharge - and you got to keep the goods and got your cash back. I had a wonderful instance of that once, quite genuine, where I bought a keg of beer which was supposed to contain a gallon, 8 pints. I always use a proper lined glass and was dissapointed to find that one keg only contained 6 and a half pints, not all drunk in one session by the way. I took it back and told CS, they gave me cash back, got me another keg and took my details. Three days later a man from the brewery arrived on my door with two more kegs! Pity that people abused that option in Hillards days, it got stopped of course.
Apart rom leaving the company back in the mid 70's, I don't know what I've done wrong to deserve the attention of security at the time the Christmas shopping incident took place - just thought it worth mentioning here, it does happen!

when u purposely look for misprices and see two stickersthat are differant use the instore scanners to check the price

    Will

    Thanks Will!

I've just been reading all your wonderful tales of being followed around, which I think may have happened to me too. Do you not think after checking a few items at the scanners; they'd throw me out? Or are they not usually that abrupt?

    Thanks,

    Gary

Does it state this anywhere in store, just want to make sure i'm not one to cause trouble but after todays episode I feel a bit annoyed

I'm not aware it says anywhere in store about this, but then again would they have to specifically say you can't? The stores are private property after all...

YAY :T - Just got my first R&R at Tesco's in Reading, it went through no probs!!!

    Athlete - Tourist - SEL £8.97 - Scanned £9.77

Whitney (Houston) - The Greatest Hits - SEL £8.97 - Scanned £17.29

Also had to remind some old biddy on CS desk of the Tesco 'Our Promise' refund guarantee with Tesco branded products. Bought some own brand chewing gum from them - it's terrible stuff, flavour only lasts a couple of minutes then it goes sour - but no complaints I got my money back in the end :j !

I've got to say i agree - when looking for r&r's i always feel instantley guilty scanning them then if they aren't mispriced trying to put them back on a shelf somewhere. It's proabable that this behaviour makes us stand out as looking quite dodgy so attracts unwanted attention. So far i have been quite lucky and the security guards have never posed a problem for me - but who knows, the more successful i get at r&ring the more reason they may have to follow me.

Just to note also - i have also noticed that there are an awful lot of sels missing in my local store- mainly on books and dvds.cds.computer games. I think this is to prevent r&r's.
