My "pathetic dispute" as you put it was actually a 40ft trailer load of computer gear with an estimated retail value of £1.8m being emptied by an organised gang in the middle of the night. The bored female copper on the end of the phone told me that they didn't have any 'resources' available to deal with it at the moment (this while the crime was in full swing and a 2 minute drive from the cop station), to not put myself in any danger ( !!!!!! is that supposed to mean?) and they'd get someone out asap but 'it could be some time'.
Sorry for my lack of 'respect for law and order' as you put it, but tell me, just how serious does the crime have to be for them to put their fingers out of their !!!!!! and actually do some work?
And for the record, they never even turned up. I phoned them back later to ask what the status was and the most I got out of them for a crime reference number for the insurance company.
This is no isolated case either. I could reel off several other similar level crimes where they couldn't be arsed as well.
I stand by what I said - a complete waste of time and space the lot of them  .
Rob
So at which point was a life put in danger or someone's home was robbed??? stealing computers from a back of a truck is not a serious crime when we have guns drugs muggings or even murders on the streets or we could include fights.....women being abused or home burglery or they could have been dealing with a crash were people had been killed....you don't know
so trying to look at the bigger picture...could it be that they were possibly busy dealing with more serious crime??? or would you like the person behind the desk to shut up shop to save a load of computers??....I mean 1.8million quid is worth so much
Could it actually be that they are so undermanned because the govement is cutting jobs in the police so they have to prioritize the jobs they go to......
so I stand by what i say
you have a small mindIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
Snooze, I have a couple of similar tales of woeful local police, alarmingly similar actually, but I also have to say I would not want to live in a society without police.
My question would be, do you think people joined the police NOT to tackle crime, or could it be the system, underfunding and/or requisite paper pushing holding them back?0 -
The filth only hassle drivers, the rest of the time you NEVER see them on the streets...so good riddance to bad rubbish
Yeah they onky hassle drivers for using their phones, drink driving and driving like utter idiots. Do you have any idea how much paperwork is involved in the Police job, i doubt it.
My dad was a Policeman and as far as i am concerned he3 put his life on the line for others. One 'job' he was called to involved a call from a worried lady who called in and said that the couple next to her had a big fight, things being broke, shouting etc then it went quiet. Dad turns up at the front of the house and looking in the living room could not see a thing. Went to the back of the house and on the floor a woman in a pool of blood, blood all over the walls. he had 2 choices, wait for backup or go in. He went in and the woman was dead and they counted 28 stab wounds. Whilst in the hoiuse there was movement from the next room, enters and there is a child sat there and the guy is sat next to him with a knife. The man goes for my Father but my Father deals with him.
He also worked on a very big Child !!!!!! case and came home sometimes sick and i mean sick. It takes a certain type of person to deal with going to sudden deaths of Children. car crashes, murder and looking through video tapes of dirty fxxxxxs abusing a child.
If it wasn't for people like my dad the streets would be far worse and i bet you wouldn't think twice about calling them if someone was doing your car over or invading your home.
They are like the NHS, they do a fab job but Gov gets too involved, lots of tred tape stupid targets and taking people to court only for them to get away with lots of crime so you should blame the Gov.
They work horrible hours and why you sleep safe in your bed there are many facing people with knives and guns.
Look at the news in past years and the amount of Policeman / Woman being stabbed and shot is a fair bit. they do this for YOU you fxxxing PXXXKend the tv tax0 -

It's much the same for the rest of the public services. Over-controlling interference from central government prevents the job from being done properly.
It's of most surprise that anyone still wants to do the work.0 -

Perhaps that's what they're getting them back from Iraq for?
I think you'll find the guys that were going to Iraq are now going to AfghanIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

Believe me when I say you want to be glad you have the police on the streets because if the Army have to take over the job of policing you will get more than a "aggressive" point to make you move.
Who said we didn't want "the police on the streets", most of the comments relate to them napping on the job (crime detection) and NOT offering value for money, we pay enough through our rates!!0 -
Yes here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=17859313&postcount=30Someone on here once said the Police couldn't be made redundant. Perhaps they were wrong or I am misremembering. I'd be interested to know which it was though.
I guess they just have recruitment freezes, and make sure they get enough funding to keep the staff they already have.0 -
