Thousands of police to lose jobs as forces feel the pinch

Wow given the venom against the police displayed in the posts so far it is little wonder people are growing up in this country with little respect for the law and the Police. My Wife is a special constable which means she is currently giving her own time without any pay to help protect people as she belives it is the right thing to do.
As far as I am concerned speeding fines are a tax on the stupid! I certainly dont agreee with some of the limits round by us, 40mph on a dual carriage way with no houses on it, but Council sets those not the Police, they just enforce the Law not make it! I know some officers that do not agree with some laws but they have to enforce then all the same.
In answer to Aeuerby,
1) Traffic usually have high powered cars, and more forces are going for off the shelf high-performance cars rather than custom built cars. Were all 6 necessary, well that depends on the operation they were doing, would you prefer that they had 3 officers out and had the others in the Station drinking tea waiting for the phone to ring? I know maybe they shoudl be walking on the beat that way they can only respond to a crime by running?
2) With 6 traffic cars and 6 traffic officers they can respond in force to 1 or 2 incidents or if there is a lot of small incidents they can just have one officer at each incident. This is just a simple matter of resource management and flexability. Most beat cars have 2 officers in them, or 1 officer and a special.
3) Hehe not going to argue here, have you met my Wife? Please remember other opinions are available.0 -
I agree with Cat695
People seem to all to quick to knock the Police, but I for one think they do a go job with constraints they have. Could do better sure, but couldn't we all? Not sure whether the article is reading serving Police Officers will lose thier jobs or whether the recruiting of them will stop, perhaps replacing them with PSCO or alike and saving money.
As for the high performance cars, of course they do. I would have thought that it serves two purposes, a deterant to anybody who considering not stopping and then if they are stupid enough they stand a better chance of catching them!
3: Why are some coppers arrogant and power happy?!!?
the same reason that any section of the public is, they are human after all!0 -
Believe me when I say you want to be glad you have the police on the streets because if the Army have to take over the job of policing you will get more than a "aggressive" point to make you move.If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -

may be the case that your wife is doing this on moral grounds, but the vast majority of specials only do it because you essentially have to do it in order to get into the police in the first place. it is just a means to an end.0 -

I agree with you my wife does want to join, although after what see has seen she is thinking that sticking to the nice desk job isnt so bad! She is still making up her mind, she does want to join with a genuine desire to help. Please remember other opinions are available.0 -
i have found myself disappointed by the Met a few times when Ive needed them from work,. but on Friday night we heard someone trying to break into our flat. We called them and they were there with a riot van within 3 mins.
I must say I was very impressed.
I do think we are going to struggle inthis downturn, and policing needs to be given a bigger priority. What with riots, strikes, and all manner of crime likely to go up, the last thing we need as a society is less police force ( sorry- service ) Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Someone on here once said the Police couldn't be made redundant. Perhaps they were wrong or I am misremembering. I'd be interested to know which it was though.0

it was Brit1234 - i posted some of his comments above. Post number 8.
he was laughing/mocking some people for being made redundant themselves.0 -
Police Officers can be made redundant as can any Crown servent, however, I suspect now or in recent years this has or never is likely to happen.
Unfortunately these hard times are likely to see offences like theft and fraud to rise which will only be more pressure for the boys in the blue.
I suspect appointting PCSO in the place of nature wastage, through retirements and people leaving on the own accord will keep the penny pinchers happy0 -
