OS Daily - Shrove Tuesday 24th February - PANCAKE DAY

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 24th February. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning everyone,

well I don't start the thread for ages, & now twice in just a few days!! Been awake since 3am tossing & turning, think I have suddenly hit meltdown point with my uni placement (double the caseload I should have), let alone managing study/paid work/life & currently feeling I would like to curl up in a ball & shut the world out.... So just made myself a cuppa & thought I would start the day off.

Pancake Day so I must remember to get some lemons later - don't think I'll bother with dinner, just go straight for the pudding :) My youngest likes to spread hers with chocolate spread & chop up bananas inside - with some squirty cream for good measure, lol. What does everyone else like to do with their pancakes?

Still seem to have washing drying all over the house/radiators - I need to get my little brother to help me create a solid base of some description into which I can put a rotary line near the edge of my patio, as otherwise all I have is a small airer which I can stand out there - and as there have been millions of sheets & bedding this week for some reason, it's taking over...

Sybil, good luck for your trip out with Little Bear today - and a very good idea about getting a weekly bus ticket too, that may help inspire you to get out as you will need to get your money's worth!
Redruby, hope you had a better night's sleep.
MSD, hope you are ok hun - have you heard from Tristan recently?

I was thinking there must be a selection of grandbabies due shortly?? Bit of a random thought, but it just occurred to me.... Lots of that going on tonight/this morning, can't seem to shut the brain off... If only I could get into the office now I could start tackling some of the worries.

(((((((hugs))))))) for all those sad, worried or poorly. xx

morning squiggly, (and all who follow!)

Insomnia's horrid isn't it, I've been awake since 2.35, lay in bed for an hour and then got up and started decorating! Not really meant to be up a ladder at the moment, but DH is asleep, so it won't worry him!

OS-wise today I'm gonna try to buy some meals for a fortnight which are all in the store cupboard completely. The feezer thing is good, but we keep having to use it up, cos we don't know when the baby's coming IYSWIM? So I'm gonna try to assemble a fortnight of dry goods that can just sit in a mouse-proof box til the baby comes!:o

Sorry I'm not too sure who is in need of hugs, but please have a beer from me if you'd like one!

    Love

    Weezl x

Morning S-D & all who cross follow:

:grouphug: Meanmarie on the loss of Luca, we know you will miss him :grouphug:

:grouphug: Snowy don't let the office politics get to you, she is obviously frightened that someone will see what she has been doing is inefficient, and she is frightened of learning new ways :grouphug:

WS atta girl, you can do it.

:grouphug: to the insomniacs, sad, lonely, ill, and all who would just like one, :grouphug:

 Jayward - Messenger still doesn't like me, trying to install new version and it doesn't like that either. Hope you had a good time with your ex-workmates.

Csarina - has DH had his ears checked out re the dizzy spells/nausea?

:hello: to newbies, lurkers, stalkers alike.

We bought some paint yesterday for the balustrades, so may be getting started with that, depends if DH fancies that task when he awakes. Wil decide what to make the left over chicken into later, maybe sweet & sour chicken, after the sucess of the S&S Pork. Lidl here have a chinese event on on Thursday, with Sesame & Peanut oil, so will get these as I want to try to make egg fried rice.

Enough M-ing (hope some quotes have turned into work for your DH M)

    Take care - DG

Morning everyone - hope that you are all well?

I had a useful weekend away :) Managed to catch up with a few folk, had a run round some of the shops to stock up the store cupboards and the course at the weekend went well, as well as being useful.

Back to work this morning and I've got a lot to do this week, feel as though I've been on the treadmill a bit with not having a weekend of it.

There's a load of washing in the machine and I'm hopeful of getting it out. It's still dark here, so can't see what the weather is up to just now. Lunch will be soup and a roll and dinner will be pasta and sausages.

Have a good day and I hope that it's a good pancake day for everyone!

    Good morning all.

Meanmarie - sorry to hear about Luca. (((Hugs))) to you.

I woke up later than usual this morning, so a quick post from me then I'm off to update the Knit Your Square thread which has gone mad this year!

On the home front, DH and I have been decluttering and sorting out cupboards and so on. Sadly, some of the quotes he's done he hasn't been successful in - and he's kept his prices really low! There's only a certain level he can go to before it's just not worth it. He suspects that the people who have got the jobs will have priced them too low and will come unstuck if, say, there are unforeseen problems, or the work is delayed by bad weather or something like that.

Some of you may know that we have a house in France that we've been doing up as and when time and funds allow. I haven't wanted to go and live there because I'll miss the family too much but, if the work really dries up for DH, we have thought about going over there for the summer, finishing off the house and selling it so, watch this space! Ideally, we'd sell it and buy another house here and maybe a smaller house over there as a holiday home. Fortunately, the house in France came with lots of land which we've turned into three building plots with planning permission. We've sold one plot and have just put the other two up for sale. So, it looks like we may be on the verge of a new chapter in our lives! I might be bending the ear of those who are already living abroad or who, like Donny-gal, spend a lot of time away from the UK.

Off to put the kettle on!

    (((Hugs))) to all.

    KathyXX

Anyway, I'd better go and put the kettle on again.

    Morning all,
I'm not decorating today as I ran out of paint, DH gets 10% off at B&Q on Wednesdays so I'll stock up then, they are doing 10ltrs for £10, I'll get it for £9 every penny counts.

I have ordered a cotbed from Mothercare £150  and that's without the mattress, that's another £99. Jeeez!! We made do with a drawer when DD1 was born. Still, the cotbed changes from a cot to a bed suitable for kiddies up to 5 yrs old. I'm taking DD2 to Mr T's to stock up so she will have everything needed to last a month. (Hmm, hope the do mortgages  )

Need to go to fabric shop to get curtain material for the nursery and DD & Sil 2b's bedroom.

Had to phone for 2 quotes to have their roof re-fibreglassed. After DH and I put up a new ceiling the roof developed a leak. It's on the extension and it's a flat roof. More expense.

I have a stew in the SC for dinner and BM on. Must, must start on the mound of ironing, 2 suitcases full.

Special hugs for you Meanmarie, what a sad time you're having.
More hugs to those in need, still need to catch up with all news.
Snowy, how about asking her to go forth and multiply;)

    Morning all,

Marie, I am so sorry to hear about Luca, he is at peace now, and however difficult it was you have done the right thing for him xx

Looks like its going to be a nice day today, I have two loads of washing to do, yesterday I got loads dry.

I slept much better last night, no pain in the bum, well only OH :rotfl: but thats normal.

I need to pop to the garrage today, they balanced my wheels last week, and something has been rattling and griving me mad all week, so need to get them to have a look.

I need to pop to the shop, and get, stewing lamb, I had ordered it online but they only sent one and I needed two, so will have to nip into Mr T, I also need live yogurt.

Dinner today is lamb chops, mash, brocoil, and carrots, and I will prepare a lamb tagene for tomorow.

Have not seen N9eav for a few days, hope all is ok

Snowy, good luck at work today xx

Kathy, when I read your news about you moving for the summer, I thought OH NO I shall miss her, then I realised they I dont actually know you, and that you could log on from France, :o good luck with whatever you decide xx

Hugs to all in need, have good days all x

Edited to say hugs to Squiggly, take care of yourself hun xx

    Hugs to MM.
I got a few pofaced comments from the bursar, but no serious complaints, so it looks like my new layout can stay. A couple of staff moaned that there was nowhere for them to spread out their work, so I told them that was the idea, go & spread out in the staff room, there are 10 large tables in there.
I'm off to work soon, still no word from BIL re work with hubby, is he in bed, in prison, in New York? Anything is possible. I get so annoyed BIL has no understanding of how upset hubby gets, partly becaise he's been let down, partly cos he is worried about BIL.
    Breakfast - porridge
    Lunch - leftover fish pie
    Tea - Chops
I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning :hello:
I finally had time to watch Mastermind yesterday, Annie you were fab :T

The doc wants me to have more blood tests, the same as last time but I have to fast  I feel faint if I don't eat breakfast so I'm going to struggle on the day :rolleyes2 I asked him if it was OK to take sleeping tablets but he said no, he wants to see my sleeping pattern ATM. So I'll probably be an exhausted wreak by the end of the week :D

It's mr tru's last day at work tomorrow, he starts the new job on monday so he's got a few days off. My Easter cards are almost ready, so we can drop them off on thursday or friday, at the same time we'll go to one of our fave farm shops for veg and a hay bale. I've had an idea for another Easter card - in my head it's lovely but sometimes, it kind of gets lost in translation between brain and hands so we'll see :rotfl:

I've got a bit of ironing to do, the bathroom needs swishing and the greenhouses need a bit more attention so I'd best get on with it :D

    (((Meanmarie)))

Squiggly - we like them traditional here- just lemon & sugar.

I unusually had a sleepless night as well. Am feeling very tired at the moment as seemed to just get in to a deep sleep as the alarm went off. Will try and keep going all day, all be it slowly, then have an early night tonight.

Paperwork this morning, need to log onto the banks in a while - might need to have jiggle with the finances this morning, and loads of office work to do. Tesco's also coming this morning.

Nice n easy tea tonight of burgers and chips, followed by pancakes of course. If i have time might make some choc fudge brownies, my DM dropped off a Mcdougalls baking book for me yesterday and there looks to be some good recipes in there.

    Anyway best be off

    Morning all

Not been on for a while, not much been going on except the usual day to day stuff.

Felt I just had to come on and send my condolences to Meanmarie. Brought back memories of Pancake Day about 7 years ago when we had to have our Snowy put to sleep because of her heart. I remember we buried her in the garden where she used to sunbathe in the summer and then weeping over the stove making pancakes for us all :o. We never forget our beloved pets, they are always there with us.

WS With Spring in the air its just the right time to get out and about every day with Little Bear so let today be the start of your regular jaunts.

Have my new kitchen floor down at last, chose a lighter colour this time and it makes the kitchen look bigger and brighter.

Might do a little baking this morning, hobnobs are running low. The usual ironing pile will be giving me evil looks so will attempt to shrink that too. If I am still feeling that my get up and go hasn't got up and gone I might sort my side of the wardrobe out, it certainly needs it.

Oh, BTW Squiggly, I like my pancakes traditional, lemon and sugar. DH eats his with just lemon and DS prefers chocolate sauce :D

    Have a good day all

Oh nearly forgot, Aussie hurry up with the piccies oh and Beth would be nice to see some of yours too. Would love to go to both places myself but until my numbers come up on the lottery................;)
