I pay 25.02p for the first 900 units.
Beyond this I pay 10.66p a unit.
I calculate the standing charge as being £129.24 per annum.
.
Are there any companies that have a lower standing charge but the same 10.66p unit rate?
You'll probably find that the companies that have a lower standing charge have a higher unit rate to make up for it.
Not that I'm defending E-on in any way, just commenting that you need to look at the bigger picture and not get hung up on one charge when the other may be lower than the competition.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!

Hi dogshome
I've sent you a PM with some details of how to see more E.ON prices for your area on the website.
I didn't want to put it on the forum to comply with the rules about promoting.
Hope that's ok.

To EON Co. Rep Why is it that I cannot access a complete list of your tariffs on your web-site? All the other distributors publish this information on the web - some give all the options and prices for a particular post code, whilst others, Scot Power for example, list every option for every region. A visit to your quote web page results only in details the 2 or 3 tariff options that EON elect to show, so why are you hiding all the others?
The present legislation that relies on competition between suppliers to control prices, is worthless if all customers cannot access full informatio from all suppliers, all of the time.0 -

The questions were, why can't we all see them and why are they hidden? If they are there, they're well hidden. Surely there should be a price information section clearly linked on the 'At Home' page.0 -
I dont quite understand the point of this thread to be honest.
The OP asked why the standing charge is so excessive then says he is on a no standing charge tariff with a two tier unit rates system. (I know the standing charge is tied up in the primary rate but its still not a "Standing charge")
I've just run a comparison for my area (Seeboard region) based on me being on the standard tariff with E-on paying £50 a month (although I would assume the OP's is probably higer if he is electricity only), I selected Direct debit and no internet tariffs (to get a more like for like comparison) there are only two tariffs that come up cheaper one is E-ons "Energy discount" with rates of 24.476p for the first 225 kWh per quarter, and 9.335p thereafter (saving a whopping £13!) and Npowers SOL 14 that has a real standing charge of 15.82p per day (£57.75 per year) and a Unit rate of 9.345p (Saving £61 a year including their annual discount)
So really, in my area at least, E-on may not be the cheapest but you could hardly say its extortion.
E-ons rates for the same tariff as the OP in my area are 24.476p for the first 225 kWh per quarter, and 9.335p thereafter
Compare the rates with Npowers standard tariff which has rates of 16.496p for the first 182 kWh per quarter, and 13.325p thereafter and yes, the primary is a lot lower but the secondary is about 4p a unit higher and thats where most of the use goes.
People always seem to get so hung up on one particular aspect of the pricing structure without stopping to think that overall the prices arent really that bad.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!

Plushchris, you are begging the question. Everyone knows that. That's what we are saying in the first place. You have not replied to the question that is being asked. Considered a career in politics?0

What, why is the primary rate so high?
Probably because the secondary rate is so low!

Hi everyone
In this particular instance we're happy for E.ON to provide links to information on the E.ON website to demonstrate the point.

Hi everyone
This is the link to the E.ON website, to see the different tariffs you will need to enter your post code and monthly spend.
This will bring up a list of prices, to see the unit cost just click details.

But why do you force customers to enter a uselessly inaccurate spend instead of usage? To lie and bait with ridiculously inaccurate savings?
And that page does not provide details of the discounts.
Nor does it provide access to the terms and conditions.0
