Why is the standing charge on your standard tariff so extortionate.
It is £129.24 per annum!
That is nearly 3 times the charges made by your competitors.
(Note I live in the East Mids region Rate 1 first 900 units 25.02p Rate 2 10.66p).
Thankyou.

Hi storminbalder
It would be helpful to know which tariff you are on, as the standing charge prices are only offered with some of the online prices or pre-payment.
The standing charge is then different if you have economy 7 or one rate, if you pay the standing charge you don't have primary and secondary units.
But if you are on economy 7 you will still have a day and night rate, as well as the standing charge.
If you wanted me to take a look at your account and calculate if you would be better off without the standing charge, PM me your post code and house number and I'll be happy to do so for you.
E.ON currently only offer pre-payment with a standing charge.

You still charge £216 for a non standing charge tariff. Please just answer the question instead of trying to hush up the truth through private messages. Every other company charges around half what E-on charges.0

Hi Kimyeovil,
I'm sorry but I’m confused.
If you choose the No Standing Charge version of our standard tariffs, then you are simply charged for what you use, over a two tier pricing structure. (Not all of our customers use their primary units).
Is that what you are referring to?

Your online V12 no [daily] standing charge tariff carries a standing charge per month of £12 for electricity and £6.50 for gas. This standing charge is not realistically avoidable for the electricity although some gas heating users may not pay the full £6.50 over summer.
The question, which has been repeatedly asked but never answered, is why do you choose to target customers this way? (There is nothing wrong with doing this - there are no directives to reward the frugal or econuts - but you should be open about what you are doing.) Were you just jealous of nPower's extortionate standing charges from previous years?0 -

Sorry. I don't know how I can be much more precise? I will however restate and try to be as detailed as possible.
I am on your Standard electricity tariff. I do not have gas.
I pay by direct debit. I do not have online prices as you do not allow Heatwise customers access to these (this I might add is another bone of contention). I do not have prepayment either.
I live in the East Midlands (Nottingham). I do not see my exact postcode as being relevant and I should be able to exact a response from the details given.
I pay 25.02p for the first 900 units.
Beyond this I pay 10.66p a unit.
I calculate the standing charge as being £129.24 per annum.
I would like to be clear as to why your standing charge is so excessive. I am determined to get an answer to this question from somewhere as it is so excessively out of step with all the other energy companies. I do not understand what additional services that you provide to warrent the huge additional cost incurred.
Please note - I also have Heatwise at 6.35p a unit and a standing charge of 10.02p per day but this is not relevant as far as I understand as it is only the Standard tariff I am enquiring about.
If you do not want to use the term "standing charge" but wish to use the term of your choice, then please do so, but I would still appreciate a response to the basic premise of my question.
Thanks.0 -
OP - is the heatwise a separate meter and a separate tariff to the one you are enquiring about? So do you have two meters?
Or are you not on the standard plan at all and are you just asking the question?
I live in Birmingham (which is a different supply area) and Eon's standing charges are high in my area as well!Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
The figures you have calculated do add up, the difference between the two tiers is £129.94 per annum (in this case).
This is the way the pricing structure is set up. Although this aspect of our price structure may be higher than other providers we still remain competitive in the energy market.
The energy industry allows consumers the freedom to choose tariffs that suit their individual needs. For some of our customers they will not use this full allocation and therefore will benefit from choosing our primary/secondary unit rate version.
In a nutshell my colleagues and I are here to offer assistance and advice to E.ON customers and not justify the way the company chooses to provide retail electricity and gas.
To be compliant with the forum rules, I cannot go further into the prices and tariffs E.ON offer. The prices are what they are and the choice is ultimately in the consumers hands.
