They know but baldly explaining they prefer to target more profitable customers at the expense of those on tighter budgets (instead of charging high users a fraction of a penny more per kWh) is difficult to rephrase in appropriate P.R. speak.
  • The figures you have calculated do add up, the difference between the two tiers is £129.94 per annum (in this case).

This is the way the pricing structure is set up. Although this aspect of our price structure may be higher than other providers we still remain competitive in the energy market.

The energy industry allows consumers the freedom to choose tariffs that suit their individual needs. For some of our customers they will not use this full allocation and therefore will benefit from choosing our primary/secondary unit rate version.

In a nutshell my colleagues and I are here to offer assistance and advice to E.ON customers and not justify the way the company chooses to provide retail electricity and gas.

To be compliant with the forum rules, I cannot go further into the prices and tariffs E.ON offer. The prices are what they are and the choice is ultimately in the consumers hands.

    Thankyou for the reply.

I accept all your points (although not necessarily happily) bar one.

Unfortunately I do not have a choice. I have, in addition to Standard Tariff, the Heatwise Tariff. As you might know, this tariff is very difficult to get rid of. It also prevents you from moving to any other supplier. I have thus far been unable to find out any information as to how to get rid of it and therefore be able to move supplier.

If you could furnish me with any information as to how to proceed in this matter (in getting rid of Heatwise or finding another supplier that will accept this) it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

OP - is the heatwise a separate meter and a separate tariff to the one you are enquiring about? So do you have two meters?
Or are you not on the standard plan at all and are you just asking the question?

I live in Birmingham (which is a different supply area) and Eon's standing charges are high in my area as well!

Question one - yes, yes and yes.

Question 2 - I am on the Standard plan.

Ha ha. Once again a refusal to answer the question.

Yes I agree. It would seem I am going to have to search further afield for my answer. Unfortunately, once I have a bee in my bonnet over an issue there is no stopping me. Unfortunately for E-on that is!

Thanks for your support on this issue by the way.

I see your point. Although I don't think E-on are competitive in this respect either. Not that any of the power redistributors are these days!

I am planning a campaign of renationalisation. They have had their chance in the private sector, cannot be trusted to behave responsibly, and blown it!

    Hi storminbalder,

You could look at having a meter change (this can be chargeable) but you must check if this would benefit you. There is a specific department that would help you work this out.

If you would like their info, PM me and I will send it back to you.

If it would work out better, you would then have much more choice over tariffs and suppliers.

I am an official company representative of E.ON. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

Would I not also need extensive rewiring done. The heating and immersion would seem to be on seperate electrical circut to all other appliances.

Also I know that my landlord is not keen on me messing around with such things.

The old divide and conquer strategy.

The enquiry about the standing charges applies to bog standard credit meters.

To EON Co rep. Why can't I access a complete list of EON's tariffs on your web-site? Every other major distributor publishes this information on the web, some will show all the tariffs available for a particular post code, whilst others, Scot Power for example, will give all the tariff prices for every region. A comparision enquiry to your web-site results only in a window offering a choice of the 2 or 3 tariffs that EON have elected to show - so why are you hiding the rest?
For price control by competition between the suppliers to work, all customers must have complete price information from all of the suppliers, all of the time.
