  • Welcome ClareBelle - I know what you mean about men still having that teenage/student mentality when they spend half of sunday in bed - I have one of those too!
Beth - my thoughts are with you and your brother - fingers crossed for the outcome to be 50% in his favour......
Lillibet - well done with all your positive changes - debt-freedom here you come!
Happy birthday to Mrs N9eav - hope you both have a wonderful day!

It's dull and grey here (West Essex) at the moment - not raining, but looking like it's considering it. Plans for today are to go out after lunch and head to the discount shopping village as MrEH still needs to replace his walking boots - I'm paying £30 towards those for part of his christmas present. If we're done there in time then we'll do a walk somewhere afterwards - we have another stretch of the Flitch Way that we want to walk and that's pretty close to the shopping village place so it might well be there. Once we're back I want to make plum crumble and a fish pie - pie will be for tomorrow's dinner, yummy! Must remember to chuck nthe cat out before I get the fish out to defrost though after the missing prawns the other week!

Meals today will be some chinese roast pork buns I bought in the chinese supermarket last week for lunch, maybe with fried rice, and I'll do roast chicken for dinner tonight with roast spuds and veg. I had purple prouting broc in the veg box so that will definately be part of it though! :T

I shall go and shower in a moment and get dressed (yes, I know, I'm just NOT a morning person though!) and then I will give the bathroom a quick clean - might cheat and do the shower while I'm in it actually! Also have a tidy round - ideally I'd like to try to get a step ahead of Flylady for the week but that depends on what PigPen starts with! :rotfl: I don't stand a chance otherwise so have to try to second guess it on a sunday! DW is already emptied and put away.

    Have a lovely Sunday all!

  • Morning everyone,

Got up at 7.30 this morning and so far I have:

Made and frozen the sandwiches for the weeks lunches
    Put on a washing
Made a raspberry jam steamed pudding
Made 24 x spicy meatballs (to be frozen and then taking out when required for dinners)
Made one roast chicken (one breast with skin is for OH dinner tonight with frozen mash (which I made and froze last weekend) and the rest is waiting to cool so that I can strip it and make curries (to freeze and then use as meals for the week). The fat from the bird will be used to make gravy and then I will cook some dumplings in it so I can freeze them with gravy portions for meals.
Peeled and prepared apples for my eves pudding (to be made later and frozen)
IF I can be bothered later I will make a batch of scones and use half the mi for pizza bases.

I am absolutely pooped but this old syle cooking is certainly helping the budget and the meal planning - I am over making every week so I think one week a month I will be able to have a free week - where I just use up what is in the freezer and cupboards.

Indeed...... Welcome BuddingBlonde & Clairebelle (and other newbies I may have missed). Hope you enjoy it here :)

InSearchOfMe - I only half-caught the thing about the bread; sometimes we don't always manage to comment (or miss things cos of reading at speed....) but most definitely interested!! It's good to be able to read about & perhaps try something different :)
Betheebee, sending postive thoughts your way too.
EssexGirl, enjoy the muffins. I like making them, they just so easy & take moments, but you end up with something really scrummy...Raspberry & white chocolate are lovely. I was going to try apple & cinnamon another day too.

Never did get back to sleep so feeling worn out already, but am about to go & jump in the shower to wake myself up properly. Meeting someone for a coffee later.... (via match.com!) I have the frame of mind now that I hope but don't expect... He sounds quite sweet, and it's an hour out chatting to someone who I may or may not get on with. So we'll see.

Yesterday's shop at Costco was successful and now my storecupboard is brimming again. I hate it when my supplies get down ... I get twitchy :o OH thinks that we have more than enough tinned tuna though  He does sort everything on the shelves into sell by / use by date order though :D

    MOrning Campers!

Me too re twitchy. Last year I had a phase of just buying what I needed, but now I'm much more into having stuff in, though it's a bit of a challenge with the freezer at the moment, as I've just been having a big go at getting more 'ready' meals sorted, HM of course and my 'building blocks'. 14 portions of chilli went in yesterday and 12 of bol, 10 of tomato sauce for pizzas etc. Also 10 portions of Madhur Jaffrey's mince with onions left from last night.

Did a couple of trips to Costco last week. nicely stocked up with Baked Beans, doz corned beef, doz sardines (both for ds sandwiches). 15 bags sugar (only abt 55p a pack, how come it's 80-ish p in the shops? )

It was lovely ds helping with the meal planning the other day, I hate choosing what to have.

Been to Mr M, usual Sunday trip. Nice and quiet. Mum gave me a voucher for a free 250g Lurpak lighter. I found frozen garlic. Huge bag for 55p. Has anyone else used this? Igot frozen ginger at the Indian grocer last week, so it won't be going mouldy in the fridge or forgotten in the freezer.

Tasks for today apart from moving on the laundry....

make a batch of refried beans for enchiladas (and freezxer)
Make some tortillas for the enchiladas!
Make some stuffing out of all the sundry leftovers of bread that are in the freezer
Clean insides of both car windscreens so that we can see out!
Sort DD's student finance thing for her loan for next year.
Clear the decks ready for going back to work.

    That should keep me going.

Going to see Slumdogmillionaire later. Went last night but they were full! Went to Mc Donalds, got a mcflurry and sat in the car on the carpark at Asda like a couple of teenagers! Booked for tonight!

Hope you all get done today what you want to do.

  • Eldest DS's tooth fell out last night, which has been wobbling for ages. Only problem is, the new tooth to replace it has already started coming up and has started growing further back in the gum as the baby tooth was still there. We have only just noticed now the baby tooth has come out. I am not sure what to do? Does he need to see a dentist to straighten it out? Or will it do it on it's own? We don't have a dentist as nowhere is taking on new patients around here, so if I did take him it would have to be to the emergency dentist, but it isn't really an emergency? Anyone have any idea what I should do about it?

I had the same problem with getting a dentist for a while. I kept checking the nhs website and phoning their helpline with no success. In the end i decided that it was getting ridiculous! :p i went on NHS website again, wrote down all the local dentists phone numbers and phoned all of them. I got to the 3rd one on the list and bingo! Room for me and my daughter! I dont know if youve tried doing this?

A lot of my dd's teeth did this and mostly straightened out. She does have braces now as some didn't though. I'd see how your DS's go & ask at your local Primary Care Trust if there are any dentists taking patients on they have an up to date list usually. HTH.

My ds's teeth looked shocking when he was younger and one or two seemed a bit crooked, but he's 15 now and they're looking quite nice. He was checked by the orthodontist a couple of years ago, who xrayed and found that there was actually a tooth missing, we just thought it hadn't erupted! He has 3 at the bottom middle where 4 should be. Good thing, as there isn't room for any more!

Waiting lists are normally long for the orthodontist, think we waited 15 months. If you suspect there may be a future need, it might be better to get her name on the list in good time, but of course you'lll need a referral from a dentist for that!

Sybil, when you do make it down to the cathedral you'll have to come stay :D If the washing machine does die, check out this site, you or someone handy might be able to repair it cheap or free: http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/washing-machine-repairs.html You can wash clothes in the bath, I don't know about little bear but when we were kids we used to really enjoy stomping on the washing! You can use bubble bath, shampoo etc rather than soap powder if you resort to that, it's kinder on the skin and gets things just as clean as long as they're rinsed well afterwards.

I am thinking of all the poorly and sad people. :grouphug: I'm not religious myself, but it amazes me that people feel that they have to issue an apology for praying for someone. I believe that prayer, thoughts and hope all have the power to help people.

Sunnygirl, that's great news about your Dad, the sooner improvements like this are made the better the long-term prognosis. He sounds like he'll have a few months of hard work to recover his senses fully, then will be right as rain xx

Dave is due home this afternoon! :j I'm such a wimp, I know he's only been away two nights but I do miss him terribly.

EDITED TO ADD: Welcome Clare :hello:

Have a good day everyone xxx
