Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 22nd Feb. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning all,
wow, I haven't started this for a very long time!! Hope you are all snoozing comfortably in your beds! I have been awake since 5.30ish, helped (again) by the cat - but gave up trying to get back to sleep & got a cuppa just now in the end... Hoping I might twiddle on here for a little while, then try to doze back off.
Made an assortment of muffins yesterday afternoon - some blackberry & some chocolate chip ones - scrummy!!! I am going to roast a chicken later so I can use the meat in the week. I also have a huge slab of rump steak from my sister, but wondering if I can cook it slowly in red wine, or does cooking rump slowly make it tougher? It was one of 2 pieces she gave me originally, the first of which was lovely & tender. I just fancied doing something different with it.
Brain not functioning enough yet to make individual comments, but (((hugs)))) for those having tough times in whatever way.
Catch up later. xx

Morning all.
Fairly windy and cool here today. Still looks dry though.
Wifes birthday today, so we will have to get a few things organised. At the moment there is very little organised and so I am going to have to wing it. She does not know what she wants as a gift or who she wants around or where to visit. It could go real badly if I get this wrong....
I noted the comments on the prices at ASDA and popped in there yesterday. I was surprised at not only the deals, but the fact that things were in stock.
Fresh chickens £2 each
Butter 47p
Pasta and sauces 2 for £1
Persil, fab softner, etc etc all a good price. Beat Tesco hands down, for one thing they had offers available in stock.
2 stupid things though.....
1. They would only give me one carrier bag at a time, said it was policy.
2. The limit on chickens was 3, I wanted 4, so I had to pay for one separately after my main shopping.
Both of the above made the time at the checkouts longer and so the next customer had to wait. I had what I wanted in the end anyway, just took longer
Now that's dumb.
Well, enough of my rant. ASDA roast pork (on offer) for lunch.
CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning and best wishes to you all. Today's going to be a busy one in the soba household. We're having an extension built and today's the day most of my kitchen comes out. That means no hob or oven for quite a while (not to mention no proper roof)!! So we need to get the camping burners out and I need to be a bit clever with meal planning. Luckily my microwave also grills so the only thing I'll really miss is the oven, but my sister's only five doors away so I'm hoping to use hers when she's got spare capacity.
I'm the only one up at the moment but I'll be getting the family up pretty soon - it's back to school tomorrow so everyone needs to be up early so they can go to bed early tonight - ah bliss!!
Must crack on and empty me drawers IYKWIM:rotfl: Might try and catch up later if time allows. Have a good one,

Morning folks :hello:
Up early here. I woke at 6.30 and couldn't get back to sleep so have had my first mug of tea, toast and emailed my sis and a friend. What did we used to do before the internet? A lot, I'll bet!!
Plans for today include more work on my application, hanging the 2nd hall curtain (after buying more hooks!), dog walking and a snooze in the afternoon! I found that I got frazzled last night - had spent too much time and stress writing and had forgotten to make myself tea. No food is a no-go area for me as I get tired out. So, today I am going to buy some nice ready meals so I don't have cooking and dishes to do, just for the next 2 days. I have loads of HM frozen portions but brain can't engage with that at the mo so I'm stepping outside OS for this.
((((hugs)))) to those feeling under the weather for whatever reason.
Enjoy your Sunday folks

Morning! Happy Birthday to Mrs N9eav :bdaycake: Hope you both enjoy the day.
News on the Dad front is good & positive. He was a little more talkative yesterday & could tell the time :T :kisses: He was amazed & thankful for all the support from this board :A
OS wise today I am doing some braising steak in the slow cooker with onion, carrot, swede & stock and will thicken it before serving with cornflour. Mash, carrots, brocolli & cauliflower with it I think. Not sure what's for lunch yet I'll let my coffee get to my brain for a bit! WM on it's 2nd load but it doesn't look like I'll be pegging anything out as it's drizzling & damp outside. Back to school tomorrow so we'll be searching for all the bags, pe kits etc later I'm sure.
((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))) to everyone. Morwenna & Diva Still especially in my prayers, so is everyone else who would like to be.

Good morning everyone:D Wow this is unusual, me on the first page, but I did go to bed early last night ( about 2 minutes before midnight, that's very early for me:rotfl:) Woke up feeling great, so I'm showered and enjoying my first coffee of the day;)
SunnyGirl, I'm so pleased to read of your Dad's improvement:T:T The prognosis for him must be excellent, it is the first couple of days that are really crucial, and he got the right treatment quickly. Must be a great relief for everyone, and especially him, he'll relax better now that he can "see" his own recovery. Best wishes to you all:D
Today I plan to cook a couple of duck breasts that have been in the freezer forever! Well not quite forever, but I do forget when I put them in there it's been so long:o Will do roast veggies etc to go with them, but will quickly panfry the breasts to keep them moist and tender.
I'm going to get the steam cleaner in once I get back from Church, and give the bathroom a thorough *going over*. There's a bit of mildew on the tiles behind the loo I spotted yesterday:o Might even brave the oven if it goes well;)
Hope everyone has a good day, and it was lovely to see you post yesterday stefejb, I was getting concerned. Hope all is well with you and yours. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -

Morning Everyone
Sunnygirl-Great news about your Dad.It constantly amazes me how fast people recover from strokes. Its like magic
MSD-Still no contact from Tristan?
Happy Birthday Mrs N9eav:bdaycake:
Well its all grey and yuck here so wont be venturing over the doorstep.Plus Hubby was sent home from work yesterday with a V&D bug.So he's been up all night and feels terrible so no work again for him today.
Got an Asda delivery coming later and as it mainly consists of meat for the freezer (all special offers) I shall be cooking up a storm later and slicing it up before freezing.
My ED is visiting later so need to get some baking done as undoubtedly she'll be ravenous.
By the way if anyone has a poundland near them I got the Michael Palin Himalaya book yesterday and its a really big pretty book and a decent read too well worth a quid and if you have anyone who likes this sort of stuff its worth buying a couple to put away for prezzies:D
WM and TD are both on and the ironing has been done.I've just to decide what to make the kids for brekkie.Hmmm scotch pancakes I think as they love them.
I've got the remains of yesterdays corned beef hash to turn into a pie for tea later.I think I'll make some roasties and mixed veg to go with it.Trifle for pud

Sunnygirl - great news :j
Yesterday was a beautiful day, today a bit duller but still quite mild. Ended up with no kids last night so OH & myself made the most popped out for something to eat and down our local - very nice.
Today shall be doing a bit of everything - paperwork as am out tomorrow and definately ironing. Squiggly you've inpsired me - will make some blueberrie muffins later.
As kids are not here till later we wont be having our normal roast so need to decide on dinner.
Thats if for now, see you later.
