I do note power usage when I turn things off, just not sure how accurate the owl is.
Oxygen machine is for mil who actually has lung cancer so opening a window just wouldn't do it, plus she needs to keep warm
I realise you didn't know this btw

Owl is 100 percent accurate, assuming you have it clamped to the live feed.
  • ok how and where do ju check ur eletrcrcty meter

    Don't understand the question
Meter is outside, I just open the door and write down the reading.

It is supposed to use 1p an hour.
Dont thing she would be impressed if I checked it
She is very touchy and may think I didnt want her to have it lol
Have only had it in a month and our usage has been high as long as we have been here.

Sorry to dwell on the oxygen supply but I think it may be worth checking how much electricity it uses just to make sure the amount of money you are refunded by the suppliers is enough.

    Bulb in fire looks nice,

What sort of fire, I wonder?

Thing is, your Owl reading tonight of about half a kwh would suggest your use is within normal range - it's a shame your Owl doesn't record daily use. I have another sort and find the daily total useful because our meter is in the cellar but it would be useful for you to check against your meter.

Ours isn't 100% accurate - I read the meter weekly and if the meter says 100kwh, the monitor will say 104-106 kwh so accurate enough.

Have you checked both freezers on plug in monitor? Everything that is on a lot checked? Could you have a faulty cooker? Not sure how that would rack up your units but a faulty appliance such as oven or freezer, plugged in all the time, would explain using a lot even overnight.

Not doubting you but when I put something on with a known wattage like a light fitting with 3 x 60 watt bulbs the owl only goes up by 120 watts.
Late one night I read the meter, watched the owl for 1 hour on .60 and the meter went up by over 1kwh.
As I said, we have had 3 meters in 18 months , surely they cant all be faulty

Don't think it's this if not used at night and it's only been in house for a month. Certainly wouldn't bring it up if MIL is touchy about it - things will be difficult enough there.

We do have electric fires installed, just never switch them on.
I wish I had the newer owl model but I havn't had it long so must have been old stock, wonder if I still have the receipt.
Suppose it could be the cooker but how would I know, it is switched off at the socket when not in use.
We have checked fridge and freezers with plug in and they were ok, about a kwh each in 24 hours

well im 0.53 with 3 x 50 watt halogen on full (dimmer full) and 0.41 with them off completely.

meaning 0.12 equates to 150 watt lighting.

OK, so fires are not plugged in - except for one that you have switched on for cosmetic appearances. All are unplugged at night. Cooker is also unplugged at night.

I don't really know if this could happen, but I wonder if one of these appliances is faulty and draining power constantly. I would unplug all overnight.

Shouldn't 0.12 equal 120 watts though or am I doing this wrong.
Shouldn't my owl go up by 0.18 when I switch 3 x 60 watt bulbs on
Bev (dont know why this has gone bold)
