Sky Connect is an up to 8MB service, but not cheap at £17pm (if that is what you are paying). See if any other suppliers offer an LLU service at your exchange, if so you can certainly get a better rate than that.
Or if you are out of contract on Connect, give them a call, say you have a better offer from wherever, and ask them what they can do for you to keep your business.
l did have a moan up when l was due to renew my b/b contract in dec 08
so they offered me b/b at £7 pm for a year + free line rental on talk for 1 yr and upgraded to sky + for only £49 + fee install so was quite happy with that saving £350 approx but think will get back to them as u suggested re the b/b as l still dont think the connection is good enough ,, but will they hold me to the contract ???
l have been on a website called " sam knows " and that tells you what your local exchange has on llu... will go back on that and see

Well £7 (vs £17) is a fantastic bb deal, if you only renewed in 12/08 they're not going to improve on that. Yes, they will hold you to the contract, that is what you signed up to.
I don't understand why you're unhappy with the connection, unless you have issues other than speed. As I said in an earlier post, 6.5MBps on an 8MBps line is far better than most people get.
If you have been on samknows, look at the section under your exchange called 'LLU Operator Presence'. This will tell you which other ISP's are LLU enabled. These are the ones to then research when you are out of contract. But I can't believe you will get a better deal than what you are on now. The cheapest LLU deal I am aware of is o2 Standard, £7.34 pm if you have an o2 mobile (£5 more if not).No free lunch, and no free laptop

hi macman
maybe lm expecting too much , l use a computer at work and its quite quick what lve also started to do is not turn off the computer of a night and leave it up + connected to google + not shut it down
still not quite sure what malware means ?? can u tell me SLOWLY!!!:EasterBun GRAB EVERY OPPERTUNITY YOU GET ..YOU DONT KNOW HOW LONG YOUR HERE FOR0 -
your internet connection is not your problem, it is ram/ malware (malicious software)l eaving your pc on 24/7 increases the chance of infection.0

If you are getting the line speeds reported earlier, then the slowness of your PC is not anything to do with your internet connection. If I understand correctly, it's slow to do anything-boot up, open programs? Nothing to do with being online.
Leaving your PC on all night is just wasting electricity...
This can be caused by one or more of the following-lack of disk space, insufficient RAM, malware infection, too many junk files etc. We've established that you have enough disk space, have run various cleanup routines (disk clean up, defrag etc). We've also established that you neeed to upgrade your RAM.
Malware is also known as spyware-a bit like a virus on your PC. Follow the advice given in the other post you have made on this subject and run the various anti-malware programs mentioned there.
You should also ensure that your antivirus software is up to date and run a manual scan to ensure your system is clean.
I would sort out the malware and antivirus first (these are free fixes), see if there is an improvement, then sort the RAM.No free lunch, and no free laptop

go to this site http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&!!!!!button
download and install, then update it. then run a full scan. this will find and remove any nasties free.
routers do have firewalls, and avast will need to update every day to catch new viruses0 -
OK, as you seem to leave your PC online all night we can assume that Avast is up to date. But to be sure run a manual scan with it.
Yes your router will have a hardware firewall. You also have a software firewall built into XP, go Control Panel>Security Centre and make sure it's switched on though. You should have 3 green lights there-firewall, automatic updates and virus protection.
The answers to your malware question have already been posted in your other thread here:
