So are you going to tell us how much RAM you have? You've gone very vague on this-dare I say woolly? No free lunch, and no free laptop

To check how much RAM is installed, go Start>Control Panel. Click System. General tab will show how many goats, sorry RAM you have. As a general rule, if your OS is XP and you have less than 512MB, then you should upgrade.
Also check if your Windows Updates are up to date: on same tab, under system, does it say Windows XP...'Service Pack 2' or 'Service Pack 3'?
ok done all that
my service pk is 3
and my ram is 256mb

Seems your Windows Updates are up to date then. SP3 is good.
RAM: That may well be part of the problem. 256MB is barely adequate to run XP, once you open other programs it will crawl. You need to upgrade to minimum 512MB and preferably 1GB. Go to the Crucial website:
http://www.crucial.com/uk/?cpe=pd_google_uk&gclid=COTBkIyl7pgCFQFvGgod8xFm1g#
and run the system scanner, this will analyse your PC and tell you what your system already has, and your RAM upgrade options are. The odds are that with 256MB you have one slot occupied and one slot free. Make a note of the results and what the memory requirements are. You can buy direct from them online or from another source. If you need clarification comes back to us with the results.
This may not be the only reason your PC is running slow but it is likely to be contributing to the problem. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
SCAN and post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else but scan and post the log)
this sounds scarey:eek:
will do shortly

thats going to be a problem if l need to buy anything as ive been off work sick and have no money spare for anything like
this my budget is so tight l have to oil it every hour
joking apart l really appreciate you helping , can l just ask that l do have a lot of sites stored in my favorites could this slow me up
l used to be with orange but their customer sv was c**p so went over to sky with my tv + phone but because my local exch does not have the "bundle"?? to support sky b/b , l only have 2mg speed and l know this might sound daft but lt really slows up when l imagine a lot of people are on line at popular times
lve probally now confirmed my tec ignorance by asking all of that

No, having sites stored as Favourites does not slow up your web browser. 2 megs is not the fastest conection possible, but for normal web surfing it should be adequate. Test your speed on this link:
http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/
RAM upgrade will probably be between £20 and £40 depending on the age of your system, the Crucial scanner will give you all the options. You can then buy it cheaper on eBay, but you need to know what you are buying. Probably less than the cost of one month's Sky subscription if you look at it that way.No free lunch, and no free laptop

upgrading you RAM isn't as costly or scary as you think. i doubled mine from 256 to 512mb for less than a tenner when mine ground to a halt.
No your favorites stored will not slow down the pc, definately sounds like a ram issue or malaware0
