Hi I have looked at portion control cant rember the website,it suggests dividing the plate into sections or % percentages.
60% Vegetables
25% Meat/protein
15% Starch - pasta potatoes bread
I have tried this last night and the plate looks full, and I did not feel hungery.
Has anyone else tried this and did it work for them?

Morning all, Just a quickie from me to report a STS for me this week. I'm not suprised as there are no classes for me to go to this week and dh is on holiday too so I haven't done as much exercise dvds as normal although we have walked for miles and miles!
I am off to the Rosemary Conley roadshow on Friday and then normal classes restart on Monday so hopefully I will be able to report a loss next week.
Welcome to newbies, well done to those who have lost/sts and good luck to everyone for the coming week. I will try and get back to posting daily as soon as I can because I definately think that posting on here has helped my losses over the past few months xxxFollowing :money: to keep us debt free :j0 -
Victory - Sounds awful that tummy bug. I remember 2 Xmas' ago, there was a really bad sickness & diawahwah bug going round Aberdeen, and the first night in about 4 months my mum had taken DD overnight, I get a call at 7am the next day asking me to go pick her up as my mum had caught it, and then DD got it.....then I got it, and OHMYGOD, I remember having my head over the toilet retching and then diawahwah came out the other end!! Luckily it landed on OH's dressing gown and not the floor
He still hasn't forgiven me for it!
Hope the immodium works, and at least there was 1 positive, bye bye 4lbs hehe
I got this acne cream from the doctors a few weeks ago, and it HAS worked although it's leaving my skin very dry, well I think I applied too much yesterday as the areas where it came in contact with my skin are now bright red, I look like a glue sniffer! Where's me carrier bag.....
I'm going to look so fab when those people visit in 2hours, oh hi would you like a cup of tea? A bag of PVA glue?
I can't even consider eating, I'm so nervous! I have very bad stomach cramps too, as I didn't take that movicol, I will have some when they leave, I don't want to be directing them around the flat from the loo.
Hope everyone has a good day, and whichever of you stole the sun, I'd like it back please!!

i'D LIKE THE sun back also have not seen it for ages now even though the tele keeps saying 'making the most of tomorrow because after that it will be rain rain and more rain and the sun never comes that day':rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
moon they advertise special plates cost £20 or so as far as I can remember that have pics on them and tell you the portion of each thing you should put on your plate, never bought one but people have been helped by it:D 1 to 2lb a week is ideal the slower you loose it then less likely it is to come back on when you comeoff your diet and start eating normally again, sure you can loose masses each week by fadding etc but it is said it comes back on plus more so there is no point, it is all about the patience keeping it off and it staying off:D0 -
Morning guys,
Welcome moonflower. I know the plates you are talking about, and they are a good idea, although I think they're horrendously overpriced at about £20 each! I just use a much smaller plate than everyone else, so imagine a normal sized dinner plate, and mine is at least a third smaller - it's about the size of a toddler's Noddy plate you get in a supermarket; I think when they're adult ones they're called a 'salad' plate. I think the principle of the portion control plates is to tie in with a lower carb diet, protein should be about the size of your palm, and then you fill the rest of your plate with veg (low carb, not potatoes or ones high in natural sugar) I once heard that the darker the veg the better it is for you, the brighter colour it is, usually the sweeter. Good luck, and let us know how you're getting along.
Buttons - good luck today with the visit. Can you put something like E45 on your skin, or even some sudacrem if you have any to calm it down (not that I think you have a face like a sore bum - lol). Take your movicol later too, I'm empathising with your colon right now!
Victory - I hope the pains fade away soon. Your OH is probably right about the Imodium stopping you going to the loo, and possibly keeping some of the gripes in there, as it's stopped the 'flow', shall we say!
I've had my weigh in, and despite not being able to shift an additional 2 ounces overnight to push me into another poundage mark, I am happy to report a loss of -2lb this week. That just proves that keeping off the bread, and sticking to my small plate really does work - hurrah!
Vix - I saw you tagged in some pics - I think you worked the goddess look rather well.
Right, I've got to organise myself today, and get some packing/sorting done at the other house, so I had better fly. Not had my breakfast yet, so porridge first! Later guys. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

ps. when i say success stories, clearly everyones has one when they lose weight (dont want to seem critical to anyone) but i just want to know if i motivate myself to SW what i'll lose x lbs in x weeks. i know everyones different but i just like people to AMAZE me and i'll be woowwww'd!
i started WM 2 years ago in Nov and by Feb i'd lost 23lbs! Although swiftly put back on!
My best friend lost 6 stone on SW - then stopped eating sensibly and put all of it back on again. She also did the Cambridge Diet and lost 5 stone - she put 6 back on again after she stopped following it. She also did Lighter Life and lost 7 stone - she put all of it back on again within a year. She started doing Go Lower and lost an initial 3 stone before she stopped doing it, and then the weight crept back on by about a stone or so. Now she's following the principles of Go Lower, but on her own, by eating smaller portions, accepting that she is addicted to sugar & carbs and they are the triggers to make her binge, and overeat. It has cost her £1000's over the years in diet foods, plans, personal trainers & an eating disorder consultant. The bottom line for her is easy; she overeats in an exceptionally good way, and her body is super efficient at gaining weight, and then hanging onto it. Extreme diet plans work in the short term, but don't make for a long-term loss, and the body reacts to the extreme weight loss in an extreme way by gaining weight at a much faster rate than she lost it, once she starts trying to eat normally again (not even bingeing). Now she is eating healthy food, regularly (she'd go all day without food, then eat chocolate and carb laden stuff @ gone 10pm), snacking on healthy fruit, nuts or low GI foods. The weight is coming off more slowly, at approx. 2lb a week, whereas she'd like to see a regular 5/7lb a week like CD or LL do, but it's staying off. The only thing she knows she's doing wrong is not exercising, although she's bought a load of equipment, but she has a mental block about it. I am going up to see her this week, and I am hoping to get her to have a rethink about the exercise, especially as she's had a couple of health scares recently.
There are plenty of amazing 'wow' stories out there, but you need to realise that some of those can be followed with quiter 'oops' stories that follow on from them. It can take years to reach your ideal healthy weight, or a weight you feel happy with, but that's just half the battle. There are several people on this thread just trying to maintain, and they have as many ups and downs as the rest of us who are still on our losing journey. Most of us have to accept that there needs to be a fundamental alteration to how/what we eat for life, not just for the time we are losing weight. That is probably the key to having a true 'WOW' and making it last the rest of your life.
Good luck on your journey, and you'll find endless support along the way from the lovely people on this thread.:DOne day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
