Sary :rotfl: Yes, he lives in Jo'burg. He's a "techno junkie" (I hate it) and so his big reason for coming here is obviously only to buy vinyls. I think his timing is just because its convenient and will get my dad off his back for a bit. I'll give him credit that he does still pay maintenance-but still the same amount he paid when DS was born and still in Rands, so it's really just pocket money. We mostly leave it there in DF's account there so when we can eventually pay for plane tickets we can go on holiday and not worry about spending money...and DS can see everyone.
Vix Bummer!
Catmandomoney My DF is very "packed lunch conscious and his favorite is humous and pitta bread or rice cakes. Very filling and yummy. Mostly I make his humous for him but if I dont have time, he picks up 2 for £2 at tesco. 2 pots get him through the week-and he buys a pack of rice cakes and a pack of pitta's. Normally comes home with a few rice cakes for the week end. He prefers my humous to bought but maybe because he knows exactly what goes into it. I'll post the recipe in the recipe thread for you tonight.0 -
evening all. Feeling very tigger bouncy today.
Big welcome Catmandomoney. I am an sw fan: I eat well and plenty. Packed lunches - my OH and I have gone doen the lentil route having never eaten them before, even though myOH does where socks with sandles:D. I bulk cook some every couple of weeks and freeze in his and her portion sizes, tansfering them to a locking lid box for transportation and using a folding camping spoonyfork thing to eat them with. Filling and so tasty:
500g puy lentils,
140 saltanas
1.5 tsp mixed spice
1.5 tsp (forgotten this bit: will look up later)
80 g chopped onion
280 drained weight sun dried tomatoes
I confess I haven't synned this one up though: depends partly how many portions you choose to get our of it. By the way - a slow cooker is a great investment for making sure you have a healthy filling sw meal on the go for the end of a busy day. I also use it to cook 4 portions and freeze 2 for a quick Home Made ready meal when you are in a rush.
Cook puy lentils for 10-15 mins to soften then I transfer to a slow cooker with everything else for 6 hrs - the falours are great.
The other is cook green lentils in pan, add HEa 1/2 fat feta & mix in a tbsp mint jelly(2 syns) per portion, add tomatoes if you want.
Lentils are an HEb option on a red day and free on green.
Really glad you are feeling so much better dmv and wow - well done on the essay front. Make sureyou totally chill as soon as you can - well earned.
Victory - no, they never did find out what casued it, as by the time I went to the dr and got the tests back and the council got hold of me, I stuggles to remeber what i had eaten that day, but you can get it from meat, milk that blue tits have drunk from (i.e. bottles on the door step) can't remeber what else. Only thing I could remeber eating the night before was quorn fillets!! So it can't be them. I friend had it so bad a few years later she ended up in hospital, so I'm glad I didn't have it that badly: I was doubled up in pain in Sainsbury at one point though.
Todays menu:
bkfast: salmon & poached egg
lunch: puy lentils as described above
snack - rye & linseed bread with banana
dinner: aubergine mediteranen bake: aubergine, corgette, toms layered with feta (HEa)and chopped chorizo (5 syns) served with purple cabbage. OH will have pasta with his
snacks: to come raw swede & weetabix
I have heroically made OH some flapjcak for his packed lunches and so far haven't eaten any:A
Well done missy - another greta month of maintaining. Good luck with your next challenge re cals on big exercise days.
Sary - do you just not like liver? (I hated it as a child)
nnm: that girl has done so well - I guess her mother has the same problems so wasn't in a position to educate her daughter. I think it has been much better for her to be taken out of that environment and learn a whole new way of life. You can see a pretty face begin to emerge. It would be lovely to see a picture of her at target.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Buttons - have some Movicol, coz the alternative if you don't sounds awful! fingers crossed for the visit this week too.
Victory - I wonder if you have either a viral infection, or picked it up somewhere other than through what you ate? I was just thinking that if only you were affected, but everyone else ate the food, surely you should have all been affected? I also seem to recall after having had food poisioning before, it generally starts just a few hours after eating, so middle of the night, or just before bedtime, and was sick quite violently, and with an almost accurately timed frequency (every half hour). It doesn't generally hit the 'other end' until the sickness had been going a while, and is effectively the body using every exit available to rid itself of the infection. Are you still having to go to the loo, or is it just the tummy pains now?
BB - I just don't eat offal of any kind. I used to have kidney as a child, but as I've got older I just can't stomach the smell, let alone the texture & taste. I don't eat pate or anything like that, and I don't do seafood either. Funny old thing, aren't I? I often wish I could eat more foods like seafood & different types of fish, as they always look so lovely on TV, but then the smell makes me feel so ill when it's in a restaurant. I love my fruit & veg & most meat though, so I don't eat !!!! as an alternative.
dmv - I forgot to say congrats on finishing the essay! You've done brilliantly to catch up, and to do it despite feeling so awful for the past few days. I wish my eldest could work as at his A/AS levels right now. He's facing not being able to stay on for the 2nd yr if he doesn't pull his finger out right now.
Well, the beef casserole was absolutely gorgeous. The BF & I are going to go for a wander over to the supermarket in a bit to see if any late in the day bargains are to be had, and to pick up some bits we've run out of.
How funny is this: my youngest asked me to make him an MSN account today, so he can chat with his friends (none of whom have an MSN account!), and just walked into the front room and said, 'mummy, sign onto MSN so that I can talk to you!' The BF just said, 'you've distanced yourself from your children quite successfully!' - ha, yeah, by a brick wall's worth at least! One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

BB AND SARY - thank you for the thanks on the work front. I havent done any uni work today (yet!) so have had a good day doing a bit of food shopping and general mooch around. Also went to see a friend who has "aquired" a 10 month old jack russel (she now has two) so went round there and had a play date and lovely long walk which was nice. Will need to do some work tho as OH is going to go through my essay and edit, which I will then probably edit again. Also need to compile a list of books and locations in the library so I can go get the next lot of books tomorrow.
Dinner was divine, but I confess to eating two pittas with it. Hardly excessive tho!Completely random here but my (usually very clicky) neck has been aching and stiff all day, and just now it didnt just click it cracked! Feels a bit better now tho which is good. I soooo better have a weight loss tomorrow after being ill!0 -
Please put me down for a 1 lb loss this week Raph. Vey happy with this after being away for a few days.:j:j:j0

Catmandomoney - welcome to the board! There are quite a few doing SW on here. I'm doing a low cal/low fat/low carb diet which is giving me a steady progress.
My main recommendations to anyone changing their eating habits is to try to make them achieveable for the long-term. The basic changes I made were:
use a smaller plate - so that my portions were instantly controlled - I still do that, and it does work.
Make a considered choice about what I eat - if I have a treat, I see it as just that, not a failure or ruining my diet. Over the course of a week any treats can be balanced out by sticking to plan the rest of the time.
Cut out the bad carbs - I was a carbaholic, using it as an easy fix meal. Some days my meals could be all bread based, which is not good. Now I only have complex carbs, and try to keep them low. As it turns out, refined carbs now seem to not agree with me when I have them again anyway.
Have healthy snacks available - the easiest way to ruin a good day's eating is to choose a bad snack choice when hungry. I don't have anything bad in the cupboards anymore, but there's always a packet of snack a jacks, or a tub of low fat yogurt in the fridge & plenty of fruit to hand.
I'd say these few key things have helped me to stay on track, and either lose or stay the same weight each week since the beginning of the year. I've not had a gain so far. I've also learnt how many calories I can reasonably have to maintain, or lose weight. If I have a day where I go over, say for a meal out, or when I am not making my own food say, then I ensure the following days are well within plan, and I up my exercise.
I think everyone on the board who is physically able to exercise does so, and knows it has an impact on their ability to lose.
On a practical level, what are the things you like to have in your packed lunch? Do you enjoy fruit, or salad? Can you swap to wholemeal bread, or have a wholewheat pasta salad? Do you like fish, roasted veg, cold lean meat? The basics would be to not have pies, crisps or chips, etc. There are sub 100 calorie crisp-like snacks on the market like snack a jacks, or ryvita minis, etc., and even low cal crisps. I tend to weigh up in my mind whether I want a packet of them, or a decent sized evening meal. The good thing with SW is that you get so much 'free' food, so your meal sizes can still be quite generous.
Good luck to you and your wife, and congratulations on the birth of your son (I'm a mum to 4 sons, so I know you're in for lots of fun!)One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Brighton belle: Yeah going to join the band of hopefuls...and hopefully it will help me lose more than I have been doing on my own.
Raph:Yeah I thought I would do the conversion for you to make life easier for you. but on a serious note, I wish my scales were easier to read for the lbs! that or I had better eyesight since its a long way down to my feet when you have eyesight as good as mine.:rotfl:0
