i worked for asda back in the day and guess where the food in the staff canteen came from

the chips are not exactly mccain but not dear- not bad
    crumpets/scotch pancakes- absolutely lush
    toilet roll- shocking, avoid
bread- bit less soft in the middle than others, but i can live with it
bananas- when i used to get them were often bruised more than normal ones

i will think of more, brain is mush cos of the time
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)

Tried a couple of more of SP products over the last week:

Salsa - not very chunky, but goes very nicely with Asda own brand potato wedges.
Mince - very fatty, but once you've drained off the fat, makes a decent
    cottage pie.

I was given a tin of Smart Price sliced peaches by my mum (she is picky about peaches as they are her favourite fruit) - these were jolly nice and contained lots of slices of peaches unlike other makes which are all syrup and no peach.
  • Tea bags are vile!! I am going to try the next price up!!

my daughter always shops inasda and always buys smart price. great value on meat etc and tinned stuff. she never buys anything else and i eat here with her four days of the week, and i have never not liked anything.

where i live in bognor, asda had applied for permission to build abig stores there and eeryone was whooping for joy. would you believe it got turned down?? because they though it would have a detrimental effect on the town.

mr sainsbury applied to build a big nice new store, and its been approved!! wonder if mr sainsbury was weilding the big stick over asdas application. everyone is furious!!!!

If you have a Sainsburys hearby try their Basics tea bags. Same price (28p for 80) but, incredibly, they are fairtrade and taste lovely IMO.

  • 1carminestocky-cudnt agree more re sainsburys basics teabags!!!cant get enuf of them here!!! anyway as we are talking about smartprice products here comes my bit........i buy the following smartprice items and find them to be fine..:
washing up liquid - does the job and lasts as long as the next brand up
scrubby sponges - i get thru tons of these as they r so useful
white dishcloths - these rewash nicely
blue cloths - i use these to clean out my hamsters cage
polish - no real scent to it which i prefer, polishes well
    yellow dusters -
toilet cleaner - nice pine smell , brings my toilet up sparkly white
natural yoghurt -works well in smoothies
cat litter - does the job well enuf for my cat
gammon steaks - crisp up nicely nt too much fat on them either
lemonade - mixes well with vodka
    eggs - eggs r eggs
teabags - i like these and think their taste is fine
white wine - bit light tasting but ok
red wine - nice and soft tasting
turkey pieces - lovely in a curry but use some fat or liquid to cook them or they go dry
chopped tomatoes - buy loads of the cartons of these
kidney beans - cook well in a chilli
    pitta bread -
    crumpets -
soft cheese - nice and creamy, works well as a topping on a baked potato
sliced ham - ok in sandwiches
frozen cheese/tom pizza - nice as a quick tea
fabric softener - nt much scent which is good for me, doesnt make me itch
foil - useful for sandwich wrappings
swing bin liners - perfectly useable
    food bags -
    plastic storage tubs
cola - was ok but went flat very quick
    orange squash -
    orange juice -
vodka - ok but prefer a pricier option

    i didnt like;
bio laundry liquid - made me itch violently
    coffee - yuck!!!foul and bitter
shower gel - smelt like toilet cleaner
    lager - BBBBLLLLEEEEEUUUURRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!
