    Good evening everyone,

A massive, huge thank you to absolutely everyone who posted kind thoughts, words, hugs, prayers & generally thought about us today :A :A :A :A I have not long been home from the hospital where I have been all day with my Mum. Dad can talk a little better but still just forgets what he's saying & he's fell over a couple of times trying to put his pj's on but we got there in the end. He is being moved, tonight hopefully, to the stroke ward where he will receive physio, speech therapy & any other help he needs. I felt much better leaving him tonight he was smiling at us when we went & gave us a wave.

I honestly cannot thank you all enough I'm completely bowled over by the love, support, kindness & hope that happens on this board. Huge thanks too for the private mail that was waiting for me when I logged on.

  • Evening all. Been a bit awol this week as I've been so busy and after a day on the computer at work i need a break from the screen.
(((hugs))) Sunnygirl and family. I hope your dad makes a good recovery.
 Happy Birthday RavyLesley! Hope you have a lovely one!

OSwise this week I've really got on top of the meal planning and NSD and am eagerly awaiting next weeks organic veg box. Everywhere is spick and span courtesy of OH who is on reading week and Odin's washing basket is being defeated!!:D
I'm off for a very non-OS weekend in Oxford with my girlies (one of my bestfriends is a fellow down there and I think quite a lot of wine will be consumed as we put the world to rights. It is rather odd when I see her as she is the ultimate cosmopolitan single city girl and I feel a bit like the country mouse in comparison! Ah well we love and appreciate each others differences as well as all that we have in common!

Sorry - welcome Cookie_monster! My typical day consists of full time w%*k with as much OS as I can fit in. I love cooking and try to eat mainly seasonally and organically. OH makes our bread. I live in a beautiful village and enjoy the outdoors and country life. I try to flylady and keep every where spick n span without using copious amounts of chemicals. erm that's about it. Nowhere near as eloquent as silverc!
    Blessings all.

  • Sunnygirl, so glad to hear some more positive news today & I am sure you will sleep more easily tonight as well now....

Cookie-Monster - I echo totally what Redruby said - we LURVE new people here - the more the better!!!!! I hope to see you posting much more... :)

As for my OS'ness... well I am currently combining being a Uni student (on an 8 month full-time unpaid work placement), plus working 3 evenings a week audio-typing at home, and juggle that with bringing up 3 daughters aged between 12 & 16. So life is somewhat hectic & I don't get to do as much as I would like to. I finish Uni early June & I know that will mean I have more time & energy to invest in OS stuff. For me it's about enjoying the therapeuticness (ok I made that word up) of pottering & baking in the kitchen - it's relaxing as well as moneysaving. Tomorrow morning I am making blackberry muffins - they take moments to mix & then 20 mins in the oven - so not a particulary time-consuming job. I also get great satisfaction from teaching my DD's to cook from scratch, as well as other knowledge so that when they do (eventually) leave home they will know how to manage. I try to meal-plan, although often fall off the wagon with that one. However when I do do it, I save a fortune in grocery shopping - and also save a lot of time.... I am planning with a friend this year to convert a part of my very large garden into a joint veggie patch, and start to home-grow much more stuff - again I like the thought that my girls will know where food comes from & how to do this themselves. I think with OS it's about taking what works for you from it - it shouldn't become a chore, and actually ends up being very satisfying.

PG Tips for me everytime though, and no I don't share my teabags, lol - they're all mine!!!!

PS - thank you for all the info on the Amish, sounds fascinating :)

    Evening all,

Hope that to-day has been a good one Ravylesley

SunnyGirl....glad that your dad is improving so quickly...my OH had a mild stroke in September and it was really scary for a few days until he had 'settled', he didn't know who I was or where he was but only for a few days...he still has physiotherapy to help an arm and shoulder problem but is doing fine, am sure that your dad will be fine too.

Never seem to get to read the whole thread at the same time these days so I forget what has happened...great feeling to be debt free, isn't it D &DD?

Csarina...meant to watch that programme last night but forgot all about it, thanks for your interesting posts to-day.

Cookie_monster, I am a retired civil servant ( 63) living with my oh and the youngest of my seven children, DD4,her son DGS2 (6). I cook, knit, garden and spend far too much time on the PC. We like to travel and do so as often as we can afford to....last year's six weeks in Australia rather knocked all our savings out but we are starting to build again!

Hugs to all who are in need or want to-day, sleep well

Evening gang, late one tonight as today has not been a day to remember-DH had a massive go for reasons that are just silly. These include the fact that I can't get our video to record   .
Anywya, really wanted to say to Sunny girl that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
A lot of OS'ers are in my thoughts and prayers.(((HUGS)))

Thanks for taking the time to write that silvercharming. I found it really interesting - your care and commitment to the things you do really comes across

Thank you. I think I am lucky in that it's easy for me to be whole-hearted about the things I do, but sometimes I lose sight of what is important to me and you're right - my lifestyle is squarely centred on what matters most to me! I was brought up to believe that staying at home keeping house means that you're a traitor to women everywhere, but actually I think that both women and men should take on the role that suits them and satisfies them, regardless of what the great mythical 'other people' might think. I think a lot of the people who knew me before this stage of my life would be surprised by who I have become. It surprises me how happy and fulfilled I am doing what I do day to day.
I'm a SAHM to my dd (1) and I'd rather be OS and grow veg, bake my own bread etc and teach her these things than do a part time job and pop her in a nursery (nothing wrong with that just not what I fancy doing). I am currently looking for ways to earn some money other than working iykwim;) and I always love to find ways to save money so I am glued to MSE most of the time.

That for me is the beauty of OS. It treats time as a resource that's on a par with money - you can use OS methods to remove the need for a second income. It is great to be able to teach kids the things that are important to you. I wish you lots of luck pursuing your ambition! I have a few Avon reps who do it for the same reasons, perhaps this might be a way of earning some extra money?!
I don't normally visit the daily thread as it seems like such a lovely close knit group I'd feel like an intruder :o.

We are a tight-knit group, but we welcome all-comers into our bosom at every opportunity :rotfl: I would hate to think that people avoid posting because we all seem to know one another - you get to know people so quickly, and besides, we were all new here once! When I joined I felt like a gatecrasher for, oooh, about three seconds, until I was given a warm welcome and it felt like home! Come on all you lurkers, we don't bite :D And I do think the daily thread is helpful at giving you an insight into other peoples' lives, if you try to explain how you live you can't really do it. For instance, I try to be seasonal and avoid chemicals, but it's so ingrained into me I never even thought to mention it!

Karrie, thank you, I don't often get referred to as 'eloquent'! :rotfl: Enjoy Oxford, it's a beautiful city, although being brought up near Cambridge I shouldn't be saying that!

Sunnygirl - glad to hear things are a bit more positive. It can be a long hard slog to help people recover from strokes, but you know where we all are if you need us ;)

Right, where was I? Dinner went really well, Dave was dead happy with his lamb shank stew. There was plenty of leftovers, no meat but plenty of the stock, butterbeans etc so I've got that in a bowl in the fridge. Tomorrow I'll skim off the fat and add it to the roastie tin, then blitz the good stuff up for soup. When I told Dave he asked if I can freeze him some! Proof if ever it were needed that leftovers are not an inferior meal :rotfl:
Looking forwards to tomorrow, I'm having a nice 'messy day' doing this that and the other while I have the house to myself. I have some purple sprouting broccoli just ready to pick, so I think I'll make some soup and some broccoli pesto for the freezer as well tomorrow... though I might just steam the first spears and eat them with butter as gardener's rights, trust me, they're as nice as asparagus when they're that young and fresh! Also some of my broad bean plants are getting quite big, I'm debating whether to plant them out now or wait a week or so. I may also continue on my quest to find the perfect cheese sauce recipe - all contributions welcome on that one!

Hope everyone has had a good day, sleep tight all xxxx

Oops, another essay from me! I'll end up on everyone's ignore list at this rate :p
  • Hi all - and Hapy Birthday to RavyLesley - hope you have a great day!

Congratulations to D&DD - what a wonderful feeling. We just have our mortgage as "real" debt now - there's £900 on a 0% credit card but the money is in the savings account to settle that when the 0% ends in October. We're OP'ing the mortgage too in a bid to try to settle that early, as well as saving to make the next car update a cash purchase...we're determined if nothing else! :rotfl:

Sunnygirl - what a relief that your Dad is already showing some signs of an improvement - it's amazing what help they can give and how fast improvements can happen now so keep faith and stay positive.

Cookie-monster - please do come and join the "daily" - there's always room for one more! :D It IS a lovely close knit group - and you're part of it now! :T

Hockeyduo - SO glad to hear your OH is OK - as soon as I heard the news this morning I thought of you, I thought OH was going across this monring but wasn't totally certain. I suppose for them it's just "going to work" - but for those left at home.....

Woo- hoo - got an email from Waterstones today to say that the two books I've been waiting for have been dispatched - the River Cottage Preserves book and a slow cooker recipe book. Fingers crossed they will arrive tomorrow and I'll be able to try some stuff over the weekend.

Not much OS today - MrEH has rugby training on a Thursday night so I have "me-time"! I didn't get so much of it this evening though as he came home early having pulled a hamstring slightly. He's now hoping he'll be OK for Saturday as they have a cup match and he doesn't want to miss that. I have tidied the kitchen tonight though and the DW is loaded ready to go on later. I don't have to go into the office tomorrow as I have some sites to visit - I'll leave drive OH to work and leave the car at his office and then it's off on the underground after that. Should be a nice day - weather forecast is god so hopefully that will be right!

That's good news - he will be in the best place (but will probably start speaking again by saying he didn't get much peace as I believe they give constant help & therapy!)

Ok, so I am playing "Guess Who":

    Gordie the PM?
    Dubya?
The cricketty guy who defrauded the banks in US & Antigua?
That annoying Robert "listen to me, I'm a finance whizz" Peston on the Beeb?

    ...........

    I give up.
I don't think you are any of them.
So be told - it ISN'T your fault.
