OS Daily Thurs 19th Feb

Off to get the sticky

-Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 19th Feb). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Blimey, havnt done this for a while - is everyone having a lie in? Up early myself which is lovely as I can have some nice peace and quiet for a while which sets me up for the day. Just doing some paperwork to get it out of the way.

The rest of the day will be spent pottering around the house - have some housework and lots of washing to do. DD is out sometime with friends and DS may go and play out but he is quite happy amusing himself. DD wants to make some biscuits today so think will do everyday biscuits.

Still havnt made carrot cake so that is a definate on my to do list. Pork kebabs for tea tonight so that is easy.

Didnt get on here for long yesterday so (((hugs))) if needed. Off now to finish the paperwork - have a great day.

Morning. I have the sticky, but you just beat me too it.

Dull and cloudy down here, bit of drizzle yesterday. After coming home from work I decided to tackle the veg plot and managed several meters of digging. Only 2/3 to go. I shall doa bit today and the rest tomorrow and then it will be done. I will get some onion sets in if it stays dry.
I am going to get things in as early as possible this year to make the best use of June/July in case it's wet again.

Had a great meal over at our friends and her visiting mother from S Africa, some great food and conversation. Got an invite to visit there for the World cup 2010, but the tickets are a little pricey...

Day off again, but I think the family want to go out for a change....

    Cheers folks

Good morning Essex Girl & all who follow.

Prayers & positive thoughts needed here today please. My Dad had a stroke yesterday & has lost his speech for now. It's so hard seeing this wonderful, intelligent man not knowing how to communicate with us or knowing his birthdate. He fortunately doesn't have too much weakness in his limbs & he's having another CAT scan this morning to see if any brain damage has happened. The consultant told us yesterday that we have to be prepared for the long haul to recovery & we are. I just wanted to wrap him up last night & bring him home I felt so awful leaving him in the hospital trying to make the staff understand what he wanted.

Been up since 5am & have made a pan of whoopsied butternut squash & sweet potato soup so that there's something hot for us all when we need it later. (((((((((((big hugs)))))))))))) to everyone.

    Morning all

(((hugs & prayers))) sunnygirl - hope your dad recovers xx.

Little un woke briefly at 5.30, went back, but DH started snoring & no amount of nudging could shut him up, so had to get up! Little un still asleep now, so could have had sleep myself - really tired from weeks of very early mornings!
Never mind, I've got all stuff out for binmen, put WM on & got 1st cuppa of the day brewing. Got to do food inventory today - means we'll have a few funny meals to use up stuff, but at least I'll get rid of some of the things that have been lurking in the freezer for ages! :D
Managed to get rid of some old cross stitch mags on freecycle, loads more to sort & give away, hate to chuck them! Going to have a massive baking session today, as there'll be space in the freezer for it.
Tea brewed now, so off to get breakfast (starving this morning!) - hugs & kisses for all, see you later on.

  • Morning all,

2 days off now - but still wide awake at 6.15. My body clock seems to have reverted back to waking at around 6ish, which is more usual for me. I had been sleeping till 7ish. Maybe it's because the mornings are slowly starting to get lighter? Anyhow, had a nice cuppa & sitting in bed with the laptop.

Sunnygirl, ((((((((((((hugs))))))))) for you & your family. Stroke treatment has progressed a huge amount in recent years, with a lot of research & knowledge of the best things to do having developed, so I am sure your dad will be helped to get well the best he can. Thinking of you & sending positive vibes.

Chance to do some tidying up today, need to hoover through & clean the bathroom. Also need to ring my plumber/builder as the waste pipe under the bath sprang a leak a week ago on Sunday but I haven't had the time to even sort that out! So we have been using a large plastic jug to empty the bath...

Bought some YS blackberries yesterday so will make blackberry muffins today as well :) And some banana bread with the decaying bananas in the fruit bowl!

(((((hugs))))) for everyone else having tough times and/or feeling poorlysick, have a good day all.

    Morning Everyone

Seems 3 of us had the sticky this morning, but always check after posting mine, and found yours, so showed it was a duplicate and it has now gone, so think Pen-Pen may have removed it - thanks Pen-Pen.

    Sunnygirl :grouphug: and prayers :grouphug:
    D&DD - :j CONGRATULATIONS :j

katholicos - Seems most MRI scan operators are not trained to understand them, but just to check they are clear, and would call on help if anything very obvious was visible. May take a week or two for consultant to "read" them. They don't make them very spacious do they.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

taplady fingers crossed for the job for DS.

OS today may be thin on the ground, there is some chicken in the fridge, but undecided what to do with it. The sun is shining, and just wondering if the parts which connect with the saddle could stand another day on the bike:rolleyes: . DH is still in bed, so will have a discussion in a while, after another coffee I think.

Morning all....................(((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.........

Very early start for me this morning, the chaps came with my new cooker around 7.15am, having left Barnsley at 5am to do a days deliveries around our area. Its inspected but waiting to be connected, hopefully the chap who took the other one out will ring today and come and see to it.

OH still fast asleep, I need to get myself a coffee to wake up, not been up this early for ages!!!

Did anyone watch the programme on BBC 2 last night about the 2 Amish families? It was very good I did feel so sad for the family whose little girl has Leukemia????spelling.

Not sure what I am going to be doing toay, need to make a carrot cake in the combi micro, omelette and salad for supper tonight. I need to have a check through the freezer and store cupboard and do the menu list for shopping next week sometime....possibly very early morning towards the end of the week.

Right off for that coffee, see y'all later

Sunnygirl, I hope you find your Dad is a bit better today, my thoughts are with you and your family just now.

Another day off work :j Shopping is being delivered today.

Didn't get round to making my cake yesterday, so will do that today.

Ranchero pie for tea, loads of ironing to do, and some homework. I'd love a day where I had nothing to do - can't see that *ever* happening though

    Have a great day everyone.
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)

    Morning all,

Dull and foggy here, I hope it brightens up a bit, it has been quite spring like recently, my mind has turned to the garden as well, I am going to get some chilli's and peppers in this weekend, will start them off in the conservstory, which is frost free.

Sunnygirl, I am so sorry to hear about your dad, I shall be thinking of you, and wishing for a speedy recovery xx

Off to work today, need to do a wash when I get back, and the shopping is being delivered, oh how I love online shopping, as I hate having to go to the supermarket, its such a joy to have it delivered :T

DD was out at a sleepover last night, pick her up at 4 today, I miss her when she is not here :o , the house is too tidy and quiet, goodness knows what I will do when she leaves home  .

Something and chips tonight, so nice and quick, then a sopt of tv and an early night.

Hugs to all in need, have good days xx

(((hugs))), prayers and very positive thoughts sunnygirl. I know how hard to walk away last night but your dad is in the very best place. I know the fear and pain at seeing a loved one with stroke. He will get the very best care.
Try to keep yourself busy - as you have been doing, with the soup making! That's what I do if I feel stressed or have a lot on my mind - I find the chopping of vegetables and the making of something nourishing very soothing.
Katholicos - well done for managing so well! It must have seemed like a long time.
((((hugs)))) to those feeling under the weather or anxious today.
I'm off to work in a moment. We have a day of training. Will have to get my brain in gear. Fancy a coffee but think I will have a herbal tea:D
Tea tonight might be a chicken and mushroom pie which DH bought before he left. Or it might be poached egg on toast. It's just me here and I don't fancy doing a pile of dishes afterwards!
Must do a bit more tidying up tonight. Last night's effort was minimal - taking a few bits of dried washing and putting them away. Oh, I did clean the bathroom sink and put bleach down the toilets though!
Hoping to have some money left over in my grocery pot to put towards EON's very generous bill!!
Anyone else feel like spring just might be in the air? I think it might have been over in the 5 blessings thread that I read it. I really appreciate the lighter evenings when coming home from work. Might try to get down by the riverside with the dogs tonight instead of pavement pounding.
Ok, I'm off to work - leaving Radio 3 on for the pooches

ed to add - ooops redruby - cross posted - glad you can feel spring too!
