having a quiet day today for once , no children to take anywhere,me and OH on hols :D think I might scrub the fridge out though and will have to keep on top of the washing and ironing

hope everyone has a great day xx

He is flying at half 4 today. He seems pretty calm as it's just one of those things:eek: TBH t's a real credit to the pilot and the training these guys go through.
Not good but a hazard of the job unfortunatly.

    Good Morning All.
Sunnygirl, am sending prayers and good wishes for you, your Dad and your family. Not an easy time for you all, but many patients do make full recoveries these days.

    Ravylesley - Happy Birthday!
    :bdaycake:
Have been to the gym and the library this morning, plus bought some bits for the sewing I intend to do shortly. (Also treated myself to some pinking shears - not an OS price I fear!
However, I did not visit the Laura Ashley shop which opened here last weekend, so saved money there!!!!
Ham salad rolls for lunch, then mushroom and bacon rice for supper which should help use up the large amount of mushrooms I've just found in the veg drawer. It was a beautiful spring-like day, but the clouds are even now rolling in. BM is on yet again and I must put some washing on.
((HUGS)) to all who need one.
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!

Peyton -I'd love the recipe for the pork, pepper and onion thing you made, if you've time to post it - or do you sort of make it up as you go along, as I do sometimes?
I ended up "cheating" and using a jar of sweet and sour sauce that I'd gotten at B&M for 19 pence. LOL I just cut the onion in large chunks, sliced some carrots on the diagonal and used frozen pepper strips (from Iceland that are £1 for a large pack.) I saute the veg in a wee bit of oil then toss in the sauce with the leftover sliced or chunked pork. Heat and eat. I've also been known to just toss it all together with a soy sauce based sauce or tomatoes and herbs. No real recipe.

Last night I had a bit of a blitz clean in the kitchen and found it really kind of soothing and refreshing to see it this morning.
I love having my kitchen clean when I get up in the morning. Otherwise I just look at it and feel like saying ughhhhhhh!

OH away again, so only me to keep warm - supper on the sofa in front of the gas fire and a hottie in bed will keep me nice and cosy!
Got a giggle with your "hottie" in bed. I know, I'm so bad.

Hester So glad your DD is on the mend. Hopefully you can get some rest now.

Katholicos Well done on making it through the MRI! We knew you could do it!

Nesssie Hope your training course goes well. See you when you get back.

Prayers & positive thoughts needed here today please. My Dad had a stroke yesterday & has lost his speech for now. It's so hard seeing this wonderful, intelligent man not knowing how to communicate with us or knowing his birthdate. He fortunately doesn't have too much weakness in his limbs & he's having another CAT scan this morning to see if any brain damage has happened. The consultant told us yesterday that we have to be prepared for the long haul to recovery & we are. I just wanted to wrap him up last night & bring him home I felt so awful leaving him in the hospital trying to make the staff understand what he wanted.
Louise, positive thoughts and prayers for a complete recovery for your dad. Also for you and the family, along with many gentle hugs. My father had a stroke many years ago and also lost his speech. He ended up having speech therapy which was a blessing. He had to relearn to talk but did do it. Stroke care has advanced so much since way back then so am hopeful for your dad's recovery.
    Ranchero pie for tea,
What is ranchero pie, and may I have the recipe please?

Lesley A very happy birthday to you. Enjoy the day and wishes for the best year to come.

Good morning everyone. It was nice when I went out early this morning, grey but mild and smelled almost fresh and spring like. DH is off work today so we want to get out a bit. I don't usually end up being too productive when he's underfoot anyway. :D Just going to quickly do the washing up then head to the grocery for a few must haves that can't wait til my next shop.

Brunch today was leftover chicken pie from last night. We'll have a light snack later and tea tonight will be a pasta bake with a tomato sauce and cheese.

Hugs, good thoughts and prayers for all.

    Peyton xx

Good morning! (Well just made it!!)

(((Hugs))) to Sunnygirl. Hope your father gets well soon.

    Happy Birthday RavyLesley :bdaycake:

Started work later today so managed to S & S bathroom, polish the lounge and hang up washing before leaving. Also made sandwich for work and got salmon out of freezer for dinner.

Being on here is definitely having an impact!!

Think I'll have to find time to bake again this evening as we are halfway through the 2nd tea loaf I made on Tuesday!!

Very quiet here today so I've brought some CD's & books to list on Amazon & fleabay. I've got big drawers to hide them in if anyone visits!!

Forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS TO D&DD! Well done on becoming debt free - it'll feel rather strange at first, won't it?! I read somewhere that if you have no debt you are automatically in the top 20% of the UK population in terms of wealth. I think that's an example of mangled statistics, myself, but it's a nice thought ;)

    Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAVYLESLEY! :bdaycake:

HockeyDuo, glad OH is safe, and that he apparently has nerves of steel. It astonishes me the guts people like him have to go out and do what they do. I think lots of us were concerned about your OH when the news broke last night. :grouphug: Hugs to you both!
  • Morning OS friends!

After hanging the washing out yesterday today is now totally grey and damp!
    hgballoons.gifRavylesley!
Sunnygirl - will light a candle and send a prayer for your father as soon as I have posted. Big *hugs* for you honey xx
Csarina - Loved your post, it was really interesting, thank you
Halight - good luck with the job
Kathalicos- Pleased about the scan for you.
D&DD - congrats.pngon becoming debt free! Really pleased for you.
Nesssie - Enjoy your training course hon!
Moggins and Sybil - thinking of you both

Made Blueberry muffins with a crunchy topping yesterday and OMG they were delicious (she says modestly) and they looked like real muffins!! (first time making them!) Also made another sticky ginger cake as the last one was so popular.

Tristan saw the Dr again yesterday and mailed me to say he has some news but wants to wait til he talks to me rather than tell me in an email. So now I am worrying like mad because with the operations failing I cannot see that it would be good news. Am trying to remain hopeful but am just keeping my fingers crossed that he will feel up to logging on tonight.

There is a lovely granary loaf in the BM as we speak - looking forward to having that for lunch. Had egg and bacon pie last night for dinner, courtesy of my OH's mum. He also got a huge bag of salad knocked down to 25p so we will be having that again tonight no doubt unless he takes it with him when he works tonight and we cook something else.

Went through the freezer last night so at least I know everything that is in there now which will help with menus.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable day. Warm gentle hugs hug.gif to anyone who needs them.

  • What is ranchero pie, and may I have the recipe please?

    Ranchero Pie

Brown mince with a chopped onion, add a good squirt of tomato ketchup and some chilli powder to taste (we use about 1 tbsp), tip in a tin of beans and simmer for 5 mins. Pour into a dish suitable for shepherds pie etc and top with mashed potato with sweetcorn mixed in and grate some cheese on the top and brown in the oven.

Although I've deviated from this as I found some hardboiled eggs in the fridge that need using up, so we're now having fish pie :D
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)
  • Happy Birthday RavyLesley!

Big (((HUGS))) to you & your Family SunnyGirl, thinking of you at this difficult time and hoping your dad will make a full recovery ASAP.

(((HUGS))) to everyone else who needs them too!

    Hope things are OK Moggins?

Sorry I couldn't make it online yesterday - busy day and several 'bigwigs' in work who typically kept coming into the office every time I tried to grab 5 minutes for myself!

At least a bit of OS got done at hiome yesterday - Made my 'turkey leg rissotto' in the SC yesterday, using up more of the 'free veg' that I got from the neighbour who is on hols. Enough for 5 portions so have brought some in for lunch (Not one of DH's fave meals, so he was not in a hurry to grab '2nds' last nite!).
Also made another loaf in the BM, as not enough left of the day before's for DH to take today.....he keeps giving people he works with 'samples' so they can see how nice it is - which is very nice of him but not very moneysaving - LOL!!!!

Tea tonight will be corned beef hash & beans I think - got some spuddies which need using up, and we're going out later so it needs to be something quick & easy.

DH has been 'thinking it over' and he finally thinks that his youngest would be better off moving to a different school (I came to this conclusion over a year ago *sighs*). Problem now is how to convince his ex-W that this is the best thing to do. DH also finally agrees that DSS probably is dyslexic (another thing ex-W won't hear of, but I have suspected for a long time) and that he needs to get him tested even if ex-W doesn't want it. I'm happy that DH finally seems ready to do something, but worried that he's going to have to have a confrontation with ex-W about it, so he's going to get stressed & upset (would be nice to think they could just have a 'conversation' about what is best for thier son, but sadly that's not usually possible with her, she always turns everything into a row. She has gone through life getting exactly what she wanted at every turn, and does not like to be disagreed with!).

    Have a good day everyone,

Hi guys, i have just been looking online, and think that i may need to get a remoska, but was looking for guidance...

(the initial outlay may not be very OS, but the saving will be after the cost has been clawed back...)

i was just wondering if there might be any good threads, as when i search remoska i seem to get lots of hits, but no thread that is specifically just about them....

just had a boring OS lunch (stuff that is knocking about in the store cupboard), i have to get round to making some soup as tinned stuff is shocking....
