Bought the Belkin router along with a laptop card when the offer was on and set it up yesterday. Communication was good but router depowered every 15 minutes or so even when not surfing. Router power had to be restored by pulling out and replacing the mains plug. I phoned the Belkin helpline today and was told that Belkin were aware of this problem and was advised to return it to pcworld and exchange it for version 2000 or version 3000 (mine was version 4000). Unfortunately for me pcworld only had version 4000 in stock. Has anybody else had this problem? and have you managed to cure it? My provider is NTL and I have 1 Meg broadband and located in Swansea(if relevant). Thanks for any comments.
OK so I've managed to set the whole thing, my problem was a) the cable modem has a dodgy ethernet socket/hub (whatever it's called) so the cable has to be placed in a specific position to stay powered b) had to call up ntl who did something to enable ethernet use - they said that i'd have to call again if i wanted to revert back to usb (strange).
NOW
I have a similar problem to the above quoted! I keep losing connectivity just like that. And the only way to get it back is to swith the router off and then on again.
I feel like giving up....
So is it a problem with the router?0 -
switched laptop off as was losing connection virtually every 2 mins. now back on pc and connection is good...... so what could be the problem please?

Reckon that its not the router but the dodgy socket on the modem.
I would get ntl to swap the modem as they do own it & you pay a monthly rental.0 -

Thanks
That's what Im thinking too, especially as the modem light on the router is flashing and it says it should be just on - or doesn't it matter? If it's flashing then it signifies that the socket is dodgy.....
will call up ntl tomorrow. I feel like im doomed! Still lucky to have got the Acer centrino laptop for £360 so shouldnt complain!
thanks again and will update0 -
Depowering Router
I decided to ignore the telephone advice from Belkin as saw no other similar faults posted. I exchanged the router for another Version 4000 in pcworld plugged this in and everything is now working okay.
Before this I had emailed Belkin support and got this reply (reply received after I had exchanged my router).
Connect the the computer to the LAN port on the router and connect the moden to the Internet?WAN port, using Ethernet cables.
Take a paper clip and insert it in the router reset hole and hold it for 40 secs.
The power light will flash and come back ON solid, indicating that the router is being restored to to factory defaults.
The corresponding lights on the front of the router should be lit up.
On the computer, check if check if you if you have an IP address in the range of 192.168.2x
If not, specify a static IP address, gateway and DNS by following the steps at https://www.web.belkin.com/support/kb/kb.asp?a=2824
Open a new Internet Explorer window, type http://192.168.2.1 in the address bar and press Enter
The router set up page should open now
By default,the password is blank
Click on Connection Type
Select the option according to the connection type being provided by your Internet Service Provider and click on Next
Provide the requested information and click on Apply changes.

Personally I`m glad I exchanged the router !!!! it was so much simpler to to just to connect the cables in the sequence shown in the pamphet, it even used the software previously installed.
Hope this helps babybimbles.0 -
Hi all, no nothing about networking and am in need of some help?
I currently have blueyonder 1MB and should be upgrading to 4MB soon
I connect to the blueyonder surfboard modem via ethernet cable and am a bit unsure what wireless router to get
Would this belkin wireless router be suitable for me or could I use the LinkSys router in the other thread? Or is that just for BT users on ADSL?
Does the internet speed slow down as it is being shared if so how much?
Sorry for all the questions
Any help would be appreciated
