Just a quick question. If I change from cable (NTL) to something else (not cable) then i'd need a modem router right? So can anyone recommend one of these as we're moving soon and may change service provider.

I bought this Belkin router today, along with a Belkin usb wireless adapter .. Pc World = Total £54.98.
Was really quick to set up. signal is excellent (one pc upstairs, other down in dining room) and my son's been able to scan and pick up the signal with his psp as well. It's really good for the money, we're pleased with it

Can anyone help?
I have a 2.5 week old baby crying in the background and we've got all the Belkin bits out and we're on the first step of installation where it says unplug cable from hard drive and plug into router. We can't as it's usb! We do have an ethernet cable somewhere, will we have to reinstall broadband in order to use this????
It's suppose to be easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

What's USB, your existing Cable Modem -> PC connection? Ultimately you should be able to connect like this ....
For initial config : Cable Modem --(ethernet)--> Belkin Router --(ethernet)--> PC.
I think once the Cable Modem is setup then you should be able to use either the Ethernet or USB so switching from USB to ethernet shouldn't be an issue. As long as you have enough ethernet cables.

you dont have to unplug anything to do with your hard drives, you must be reading that wrong,as you want to use ethernet from pc to router.0 -
For those are unsure
1. These Routers require an ethernet cable (RJ45 plug) input from your NTL/Cable supplier Broadband Modem. All the NTL Modems have USB & RJ45 output.
2. Your PC will also need an ethernet port. If you don't have one you can purchase an NIC(Network Interface card) less than £10, easy to fit & install the drivers. Your Laptop should already have one. If your just having wireless you will need built in wireless/ PCMCIA wireless card or USB wireless adaptor
3. If your changing from USB you don't need to install anything from NTL you only did this originally as USB connection requires drivers for modem.
4. Plug ethernet cable from broadband modem to input port on router, then take ouput cable from one of the output ports to PC ethernet port. If you just have a laptop with wireless you may get away without physical connection from router.
5. Power everything on. Turn on wireless connection on laptop.
6. Don't bother with CD wizard. Try connecting to Internet explorer, you should have your connection. If not type 192.168.2.1 in the address bar of internet explorer this will take you to the config page of the router, ensure you have Dynamic & DHCP enabled. (If only using wireless this is where you will need a physical connection) Save settings, shutdown & restart everything again. All should be OK. Once working you can then secure the connections by filtering MAC addresses & hiding SSID etc
7. You can use this router with with ADSL if you leave a cable area you just need to get am ADSL Ethernet Modem. (Which is what I did with a LINKSYS ADSL2MUE)0
