OK, haven't had the actual copy of the survey yet but phoned up Natwest with ref no earlier on and the house has been valued at £198k. We have paid £197.500. Look forward to seeing the report and whether any works are necessary but it's great that the valuation has come back at this figure rather than £185k etc!

Hi, im going to join you, if you dont mind
Im on the saving for a deposit thread but close to putting in an offer on a property 10K less than its asking price. Its a 3 bed semi, needs quite a bit of work doing on it, good location, ticks all the boxes, has tonnes of potential. Its up for £92,950 so we we're thinking of offering £82,000 and going from there.
the only problem is there is damp but its on the inner walls - any idea what could have caused this? Im thinking the roof but have no idea of how to check and i dont want to wait until ive forked out for a survey etc etc - advice appreciated! xDFW Total £21,800 to clear by Dec 2022

hiya welcome to the thread, where abouts is the damp, are we talking about downstairs inner walls, if so you could be looking a problem in the dampcourse , but as you said the roof i think you may be talking about upstairs ? either way welcome to the club and good luck, however you said you didnt want to wait for a survey? does that mean you wont be getting one at all, or do you mean you are trying to find out what the causes could be ? someone else may be along with some better ideas as to the cause :eek:Debt Free 20/05/2009 (except for bank of mum) currently £750 left !!:beer:0

We are trying to find out before we get a survey done about the damp.
Its mainly on the groundfloor but there is some indication of damp upstairs in the main bedroom, the wall separating next door.
Thanks for the welcome:)DFW Total £21,800 to clear by Dec 2022

Cheers Grim. Is indeed. My colleague is a surveyor so we are popping off to the property at 9.30am to do some further checks as he has all the 'apparatus' to check for damp levels etc

So nervous, find out at 4pm whether we have a Mortgage AIP so we can make an offer on the house we want! I keep worrying they will reject us and i dont know why!
Also, the house is 93k was going to go in with an offer of 82k - it needs a fair bit doing to it - do you think this is about right? xDFW Total £21,800 to clear by Dec 2022

Just to update, having "lost out" on what we thought was our perfect home (see previous posts), we found a far better one and exchanged on Friday! :j
We are due to complete within 2 weeks, so lots and lots to sort out and therefore rather stressed but also very excited! Still hasn't quite sunk in yet and may well be on here somewhere asking lots of advice on the next stages.
Good luck to everyone else too.
You can try, but you'll never catch me. Bazinga!0
