I'd sent an email complaint to dell a few days ago over the way I'd been treated, but did eventually manage to get mine ordered (typing this on it at the mo' - paid £380 for 15.4" screen + 3yrs at home service)... but I've had a reply today stating that due to the problems I've experienced, I can ring Valerie Greene on 0870 9075193 to get my order placed at the original £299 price. You'll probably need to explain how you've been treated over the last few days ;-)
good luck
I agree, I phoned up Saturday morning and was told the offer had ended but when I complained about how shabbily I'd been treated they honoured the price. Worth a try.0 -

Anyone listening to radio 1?
Apparently they're playing the new 'on hold' game with a large computer manufacturer this evening
...here's hoping :rolleyes:0 -
Alright, I've had a bit of a read through the thread (nowhere near all 68 pages I'm afraid), and I've got a few questions. I had a look on the site, and took off the extended warranty, but the cheapest I can get it is for £340. How do people get it for £299? Is it just a matter of ringing them (i.e. a phone deal) and asking for it, or is it necessary to haggle a little?
Also, I saw some people mention upgrading the battery, but I couldn't see anything on the site that would allow me to do that.
Finally, does anyone know if this laptop has an ethernet port, so it can be connected to a router?
I know it's frustrating to have to hear a new guy ask all these (probably obvious) questions, but could anyone give me a hand please?

The deal was telephone only and publicised on many leading newspapers (including the free Metro). You would tohuh be very firm and also apply a particular threatening strategy to get listened to, as many Dell operators did not want to take this order, or hung on you as apparently this is a loss-making product for Dell.
I understand the offer has closed, but there are methods to get it trough claiming your original order has been lost. Once again it is telephone-only and not web order. The web order of the equivalent model was about 40 pounds more expensive. botht eh web and telephone order allow you to select a 6-cell battery for 11 pounds if I remeber correctly and it is certainly worth it.0 -
Got my lappy yesterday, ready impressed, good build quality, at this stage doesn't need extra memory but only surfing at present so not using much. Only thing I don't like is position of touchpad - too close to edge of unit for me, but on the whole very happy.
Anyway, following advice from others, phoned Dell, said wanted to return (didn't want to), negotiated a £25 discount. Not as good as 10-20% off, but worth a phonecall. Makes the screen upgrade only £10. Really smug right now....0 -
What excuse did you give them Chuffy, think I may give it a go0

They're now telling me that they will honour the price if I can email or fax them the advert!....I'm sure the ad didn't say I had to do that?0

...somewhere back through the pages? could cut, copy and paste it? I'd start backwards from a week last Sun (19th Feb?)
found it - page 16 of the thread...copy and paste into an email?0
