  • I managed to get one of these at long last on satryday morning after being cut off three or 4 times Friday night. I phoned up to complain and the guy let me buy one without too much hassle, had a couple of upgrades that I wanted anyway.

As a bit of a technophobe can anyone suggest what I need to utilise wireless and any software that would be useful to stop viruses etc. I will be just surfing and downloading really.

    Thanks in advance
  • ... oh and a good broadband provider.

THats a whole can of worms!!! I use AVG for the anti virus (free version available from them) everyone will suggest different ones really. Maybe just hit tucows.com or read up a bit and pick one. They all work if kept updated :D

You will need a wireless router to use the wireless function. However, what one depends on whether your getting ADSL or cable internet. And your provider may do a deal of some kind including one. Otherwise you could check in this topic for the one from pcworld....

Does anyone have a photo of their 1300 running that puchased the 15.4" screen upgrade?

Saw photos of the 14.1 on ebay, wondering if its worth the extra or not before I take the plunge :)

    Thanks,

    Kilty.

I would recommend telewest cable broadband if you can get it in your area, whilst bt adsl isnt too bad either. Then get yourself a router (one which is easy to setup as they can be a nuiscance setting up) and as for antivirus i would go with nod32 or avg (both will use alot less resources then other programs)

The latest offer, in Saturday's papers was for the 1300 at £339 buty it said it ended today. That's the same offer that was online last week so if it's still there it's better to get it that way through quidco or somebody.

I would recommend UKonline especially if you are in one of their areas £9.99 for 1Mb or £14.99 for 2Mb is not bad at all. Check on their website

If I recommend someone we both get a month free, so if you fancy that, PM me!

I'd reiterate my previous post - don't bother buying more RAM for this laptop unless you find you need it after you've tried it out with whatever you want to do. The RAM is certainly cheaper from a non-Dell source in any case so nothing forces you to buy at the outset.
The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster! :)

Does anyone know if Dell will deliver to my work address, as they tried to deliver to my home today which is no good to me ?

UPS cannot give me a delivery time either, so i would have to take a whole day off work to this thing delivered.

Going to the UPS depot is out of the question as it would be a 70 mile round trip.

From what I understand you have to get Dell to change the delivery address - UPS will NOT do it. Dell will only do it if your alternate address is held by your credit card company as an approved address. Yes its awkward and annoying, but it is there to protect you.... so someone cant steal your credit card order a dozen computers and have them delivered to some other address without you knowing :)

I had to take the day off :(
