Actually sarah, it was ollyshaw's post that attracted me with the £299 heading.
so that was who I thanked. Maybe the posts about the newspaper £299 price are what got this thread so many views and not necessarily the first post perhaps? This is a merged thread so who knows? I do know that I ordered because of his/her post though when I read the info about the newspaper price.
(Just thought I'd explain why I didn't thank you yesterday .)Herman - MP for all!0 -
Ok - spoke to a really good guy in the business sales. He explained this is a marketing cockup. Every time the Dell sales rep sells one, they lose £100 of margin! (off their personal target) That's why they've been hanging up. It's a fault on their system but has now been rectified.
He promised it was not Dell policy or anything, and that they have now rectified it and you can place orders. I ordered 3 with the only upgrade of the 15.4" screen (and I didn't have to do that).
He was quite interested in this forum and promised that you can order today with absolutely no problem.
Just tell them it's in the Sun today and they have a copy of the ad there (complete with a missing eval code).
fyi - I ordered a couple when they were £348 and they are really good value.
Good luck0 -
Your frustration can now be extended............get the complaint lodged on watchdogs site also......!
P20 in Saturdays Telegraph - Dell advert
Enormous banner headline
"£299 Notebook! Unbelievable Price!!"
"Offer extended to 20th Feb"
With the 1300 at £299 underneath
Still comes up as £339 on the website though ....0 -
Hi Pete, this a phone only deal you wont get the £40 off going through the website.
Give them a ring on 01344860456 and ask for sales - Good Luck.Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind. - Albert Einstein.

Page 60 in today's (Saturday) Daily Mail:
[Massive headline letters] £299 Notebook! Unbelievable price!! 3 days left
{and the Inspiron 1300 is featured as described above is pictured}
No Evalue but advert prompts "Call now for Superb deals"
So I guess a telephone offer only?0 -
Just to give you an update..I told a friend who wanted on, he called Dell and despite everything was unable to order one - out of stock he was told. I then got him to email my contact at Dell who was horrified this was still happening.
Needless to say my contact at Dell fulfilled my friend's order no problem.
So if anyone still wants one of these at £299, then please PM me and I'll supply you with the email address of the one person at Dell who seems to be able to actually deliver!0 -
yeah but you basically have no chance of getting the bog standard £299 system

Pete - I assure you that you can buy them at £299...I paid £30 extra for 15.4" screen's because I wanted to.
He will sell them to you at £299 if you want.

i've just phoned again, told them to give up with the hard sell as I did all that twice yesterday. They apparently accepted my order, have supposedly taken the money from my Visa card and will call two days before delivery to confirm a date.
I have an order number, but it looks wrong somehow and I'm rather suspicious as earlier on this thread someone was given a false order number and their order was never actually processed. My code is 8 digits long, no letters just numbers, does that configuration tally with other peoples order numbers?
I'll wait and see though and maybe on Monday phone my Visa company to see if any hold has been put on for £299.
