The OU looks good for Language Courses amongst other thing.

It can be, but I would suggest that anyone planning to do an OU language course try and get some other outside practice alongside it - local conversational course, private tutor, etc.

Have completed L194 Portales. Possible L140 En Rumbo in 2013 (before the Certificate in Spanish seemingly becomes extinct...?)

I am 2 years through a 3 year degree and am considering finishing my final year with the OU. Whilst I am cautious about it as I don't want to feel like a drop out, going back to work and earning to support myself and my son has slowly become more of a priority over the past few weeks. I've only felt like this sicne my last exam on 5th May however, so I have no idea if I should do it or not! I am an independent study type of gal anyway, I only ever attend a lecture if I think I want to write on that particular subject. My attendance at university is probably less that 50%. Yet I get firsts....so maybe I should stop wasting the Universitys space and just go self-study

    Hi Abbey

The only thing I would say that goes against doing that is when you do a credit transfer is I believe that the transferred course grades can't be used to calculate your degree classification so you can end up with a lower result that you would have at your original uni? I'm not 100% sure on that, you need to check with OU, but there is something along those lines involved.

Here's the OU credit transfer info site

Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.

huge congratlations mum2one! well done :)

Has anyone done E846? (Curriculum, learning and society: investigating practice)

I need to choose the last module for next year (the other one is compulsory)and this is the current favourite. I work in a University though, so I'm not sure how it would fit in.

The other option is E855 (leading professional practice in education), but the group work component makes me nervous :/

    Hey everyone,

I'm being made redundant in August and am going to start Open Uni BA Hons Open in Sept the going on to do my PGCE Primary in a few years.

I live at home with my husband an child and our household income will be less than £16000 so should qualify for fee waiver.

I have registered for a course and requested the forms for financial support. What evidence do they require? I am obviously still on full pay from work but wont be when I start the course. We will be applying for qualifying benefits too but I doubt these will be in place by the 6th Sept.

I've emailed Open Uni but they just sent me a standard reply back.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

When does the course start, also when is the cut off date to apply for financial support, as if you apply now you could be expected to pay all the fees, and as you wouldn't have studied this study yr,you wouldn't be entitled to transational fees, - if you did 120 points, it would be £5,000, 90 points £3750, 60 points £2,500

I would see what the start dates are, as most courses have ay least 2 start dates see if you can do a later date, I sorry if thats not much help. xx

Sorry to sorta butt in here, was just browsing the thread as I'm starting my Maths degree with OU in September (very excited!) and I would advise you to call the financial support office. They've been so helpful and patient with me, I'm a single mum working part time so eligible for help but I didn't know that at the start and they've honestly helped me every step of the way, I even rang them today as I've had my forms through and I just wanted to double check I had all the relevant evidence for them (which btw was my last P60 and my award notice for this year for my working/child tax credits)
