Is anyone here doing DB123 Your and your money?

I'm thinking of doing it because I want to learn more about personal and eventually corporate financial planning but I'm not sure how complex it is? It mentions

Does anyone have a course syllabus I could look at?

Also, is anyone doing any other financial related courses through the OU?
I did it in 2008. A lot of it I knew bits of just from reading this site, but there were lots of stuff I didn't and it was nice to do it in depth and get a qualification. It is to do with personal finance rather than corporate, though.

I did it in 2008 as well, it was a brillaint course, I found it really interesting as it dealt with financies on a day to day basic, such as households, borrowings, goverment benefits.
Basically you had a chapter in a book to work through, then you worked through a section on the CD rom, everything is provided for you. Its a brilliant introduction into finance.

I then went on an did DB234, the level 2 version, that was more business orientataed, but I would have struggled more if I had not done the DB234.

If its financial, have you looked under financail management degree, or foundation degree, it does mix with businesses courses, but I have done B201 and B203, both level 2 business courses and they have financial elements, for the next school year I have booked myself in for new level 2 business B204.

Sorry, i tend not to keep documents, once the course has done and dusted, just chuck the books. if I think of anything else i will shout xx

  • Well, due to illness, I ended up withdrawing from this year's courses :(:(:(, but hope to be well enough to just tackle one course - A214 Inside Music - come October. It seems like tutorials and speaking to human beings is becoming a thing of the past, which is something I am not liking the sound of. I think I'm already isolated enough without that.

Never mind, I'm happier about the shift to music than the other subjects I have dabbled in. As I did buy the bass guitar in the end:D :D:D:D:D:D

  • Hi Everyone,

I hope someone will be able to advice me as i have tried calling open university but have been on hold for days and cant seem to get through, they are not running at their usual service

I have had an email through saying i have a place on the K101 understanding health and social care that starts in Feb 2012. The Oct 2011 is full but i am on the waiting list. I have been given the full £700 financial support due to my low income job and living with my parents.

My question is if the course starts in feb 2012 and i have already been approved for the funding does it matter if my circumstances change after the course starts?
My boyfriend and i are hoping to move in togther next year and im wondering if this will effect the funding as his income will then be taken into account, but by that time i will have already started the course. Am i making any sense? :rotfl:

Basically i just wanted to know if me moving next year will effect the funding in anyway? And also do i need to stay in the same job? As to make it more complicated i want to leave my job when i can and wondered if this will effect the funding too ;)

I'm not sure if i should inform the open university of these possible changes or not?

    Id really appreciate any help

    Thanks
    Nicole

Tell them when it happens, not in case it does. Changing your job/stopping work in itself is not relevant, but if you do and your income goes up, then you should let them know and they can advise whether there are any consequences (and no, that doesn't mean you are doing wrong or will be punished).

They're pretty good with things like this.

I've just phoned the OU to ask them (posing as a new person) and they said if I start the course in February and them my job or living situation changes it has no effect on my financial support. It will only make a difference when I apply for the next course 2nd year as I will have to declare I live with my partner and send my new P45 to show my income which might by then he higher, fingers crossed!:D

I feel a lot better now knowing nothing is going to crop up and cause problems. I just need to do the work and pass the course now!:rotfl:

Thanks that's a good idea to aim for :)

I'm starting to feel a bit freaked out and wondering if I can actually do it. I've worked in childcare for about 10 years but never anything to do with health and social care and I'm starting to panic that I won't be able to do it. The lady said you need to spend about 16 hours a week studying and it will probably average as one tutor assignment a month plus the online ones too. I just hope I will be able to handle it, I'm starting to feel a bit overwhelmed and it hasn't even started yet

Your be fine, I'm guessing its a 60 point course, from memory is that the one with the exam.
With it being a level 1, your have a week by week schedule telling you where you should be that week, in general they give you a week off at xmas, also when a tutorial is due generally your allocated a week of study time for the tutorial.
Also with a level 1, its gives you the foundation of the course, so if anyone has never studied within that sector, your not left behind. For me, as I kept getting distacted by other courses, my now plan is a BA Hons Business, (need to do the 2 x level 3), and Foundation Degree in Financial Mgt (1 x level 2, 1 x level 1), but as you can carry some points across, I was short on 60 points, so I ended up doing a sports course only wanted level 1 no exam, - ok that may sound sane to most, but I'm disabled on crutches, built for comfort not speed, and the nearest i get to a physical sport is watching horse racing!! But touch wood, just waiting for my end of course assisgnment to be be marked, but my overall score for tutor marked assisgnments was 70%.

Just another thought with your tmas, the first one or two have a lower % carried across to your final score, its to get you back into the pratice of studying. Your be fine, honestly. Everyone finds there own style of studying, once you've found your comfort level ur be ok, I can't study in silence, i have to have noise, yet when I'm writing a TMA completely the opposiate. xx
