Am going to be really cynical here- marketing ploy!!
They may not get more sales but bet they got a whole load of traffic and people locking them to their favorite tab. Desperate times and all that...
I've never heard of an online marketing ploy that involves shutting a website downMissing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Feb. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Panasonic Corp., which aims to cut 15,000 jobs as it faces its first net loss in six years, has asked domestic managers to buy company products worth at least 100,000 yen ($1,103) to boost sales.
The company, the world’s largest consumer-electronics maker, urged around 10,000 managers to purchase the items by July, Takahisa Ito, a company spokesman, said today in a phone interview. Ito said the company estimates the initiative will generate 1 billion yen in sales. Employees won’t be required to report what they bought or where they made the purchase, he said.
Osaka-based Panasonic said on Feb. 4 it now expects to post a net loss of 380 billion yen in the year ending March 31, as consumer demand for televisions, appliances and cameras slumps amid the global recession. Panasonic Director Makoto Uenoyama said that in addition to cutting jobs, the company will shut 27 factories initially, with further closures likely....
Take all the money from the people who have ordered goods and then close the website:eek:0 -
Apparently, there is a rumour that the site was hacked from an outside source (OR...it was internally by an employee or more) and items reduced to £0.01. Any details (personal/banking) were intercepted by these hackers/employees.
There is also a rumour that it was one or more disgruntled employees who thought that orders could be shipped out.
I've emailed Panasonic to shed some light on this. Lack of contact details led me to email their product line.
I'll be ringing them tomorrow.
No items were dispatched for delivery. Thats a lie. They dont dispatch items on the weekend, and all order status were 'on hold' if members were to look at their status page. Alot of people missed this.
Finally, have a read of their T&C's, which clearly states what can happen if an item is purchased with a mis-price.0 -
I placed an order on the Panasonic website on Saturday morning.
As it stands, my bank account is showing £35.05 less than it should be (same value as my order - TV delivery is £35). It is entirely possible that this money has not actually been taken yet, but has instead been 'ring-fenced' for an upcoming transaction by my bank.
It's this ring-fencing that may be the shining light here, as when I checked my order before the site went offline, it was stating 'On Hold'.
If there is an actual transaction on my online statement tomorrow, then (and I stand to be corrected) I believe they will have to honour the price.0 -

Well i made 2 orders, a tv and phone set, and 2 camcorders and digi cams. Other people i know order 100's of those £650 HD camcorders, and 20 x 50" plasma's. If everyone had ordered 1 or 2 things, it might of had a chance of going thru. Their T & C's imply that they aren't under any obligation to pay for any mis-priced items. A £2000 TV for a penny, don't think so. If they did honour this, they would go bankrupt, no question.
It certainly would be nice, but doubt it'll happen even if they have taken money from oyur account, they'll just refund it.
Maybe someone from MoneySavingExpert could look into this.
I think either, a disgrunteld sacked employee has got some revenge, or there's been some technical glitch. As the HD camcorders kept going out of stock, only to be re-stocked within minutes. The price shown was £650, thne when you added to basket, it adjusted to £0.01...
Anyway, would be nice, but seriously doubt it.0 -
Still waiting to hear on my purchases. Limited myself to 1 of each unique product.
2 Microwaves
2 SD Cards
1 DVD Spindle
1 Cordless Phone
1 Fax Machine
1 Headphones
Was like the generation game
That was about 5pm, all the expensive things went before 4pm.0 -
You were still getting the HD camcorders and £250 digital cameras up until 19:00. Then the site went down, and is still offline now...
Love to be a fly on the wall in the Panasonic head office or boardroom0
