  • Duvet probably every 6 weeks.

You are meant to wash duvets?:o How? Do you meant the duvet cover or the actual duvet? I'm a bit OCD about washing, but it's never even occured to me to wash an actual duvet. Do most people do this? :o How do you do it? Mine would never fit in my machine and surely it would take an age to dry?

Edit: In my shock of the above I forgot to answer the question! No knickers in bed for me except TOTM or if I'm being lazy and didn't bother to take them off! Clean PJs every few days. Day time, clean top every day, trousers every few days. Bra not as often as most people on here :o (I hand wash them which I hate doing), sheets once a week, duvet cover once a month (but I have a top sheet between me and duvet), towels once a week, duvet and pillows never!

I stick it in the washing machine, I have an 8kg machine, with duvet programme, then stick it in the tumle dryer in winter or on the line in summer.

Although we do only have a 4.5 tog duvet all year round, we're both little hotties in bed and can'd bear anything thicker.

We have a summer duvet and a winter duvet (although the summer one is little more than a thick sheet and gets used for most of the year, not just the summer). So I tend to wash the duvets when they get brought out for using. The winter one particularly is too big for my machine so I go to the launderette. They have bigger washing machines and also a mahoosive 50lb dryer to dry it in. Although I washed DS's single duvet afew weeks ago, took it up to the launderette to dry and melted it. I slunk out of there before anyone spotted that it was me who'd wrecked the dryer!

    Ummm...isn't that a bit tmi? :p

just kidding - we don't want this thread to get horrible like the kids bathing one did.

Yes, I hoover my bed every now and then - it keeps the dust mite population down, and yes, I occasionally wash my duvet - it's about 12 tog though, so won't fit even though we have a big load washing machine- see my earlier post about dancing on it in the bath and hanging it out on the line.

Yes, I do think it needs a 'wee fill o' the watter' now and again.:D

Pillows get thrown out, never found any that washed well yet.

I think this is totally unneccesary, especially given what your sig says!

Why would you use a towel only once, unless it was used for or by a guest?
The members of your own family surely could bear to use the same towel as you?

Oh lol...we are all a tolerant bunch aren't we? :rotfl: Long live the exclamation mark, it can turn an innocent comment into something with force! :D

Anyway, we use towels once in this house too. My middle lad many years ago had a skin infection that required a prescription to clear it up. Whilst we were at the Doctor, he said that if everyone didn't share a towel and only used it once, skin infections and bacteria just would not spread as easily. A damp towel is a lovely breeding ground for all sorts of nasties you just cant see. Ever since then, we've been quite careful with towels and do tend to wash often and not share.

We don't share towels... DD has her own small ones and hubby and I use bath sheets... I wouldn't want to use the same one as him... I wouldn't want to wipe my face with a bit he just wiped somewhere else with IFKWIM!

I will use mine then drape it over the bannister on the landing to dry and use it a 2nd time... And I weaned hubby out of his '2 towels per shower' habit not long after he moved in... He tends to leave his dumped down the side of the bed though...

clean pjs for everyone here, ds age 9 wears boxers because its not cool to wear pjs. dd 4 wears clean ones every night and baby 3 months clean baby grow every night . and me clean pjs every night .

and YES i iron everything in my house, pj's, pants, vests, tea towels and every item of clothing.

i may iron everything and people may say its a waste of time, but i work hard to buy nice clothes for me and my kids. and ironing keeps them nice . and for the mums who don't iron and say no one can tell the difference, total rubbish!!! i can tell and you can spot a child a mile away with non ironed clothes...... why spend money on good clothes not to take care of them?

    :o

I don't think anyone has criticised people for ironing everything. Those of us who don't simply feel we have better things to do with our time.

On the other hand, I feel your posts to be very critical of those who don't...!

If you want to iron then go ahead, but please don't imply the rest of us don't take pride in our apperarance, or take the trouble to keep our childrens clothes looking nice.

I would suggest the people you are talking about are those who do not care what they, or their children, look like and you are, wrongly, assuming the distinction is whether they iron their cothes or not.

It is not - I know lots of people who do iron clothes but don't look after them properly while washing them and they look awful because they have no shape, or the white is no longer white etc.

    Please don't be so rude!

We don't share towels but only change them twice a week. We have a fresh swimming towel each time we go though.

I change the hand towels every other day as a rule, and tea towel every day.

I change the duvet covers about once a fortnight, usually. Sheets are usually done once a week but I don't fret if they aren't.

We have a big washing machine and we use 4.5 tog duvets so they all fit, even my superkingsize one. I probably wash them once or twice a year - I tend to do dd's more often as she spills drinks etc on it and she sweats a lot. I tend to replace them every couple of years though tbh, and only buy cheap ones for that reason.

I wash bedding more in the summer as I prefer line dried bedding...

Because I'm not drying my face on a towel after DH has dryed his @r$e on it the day before !!!!
Towels smell when they are left to dry and I'd rather have lovely clean towels every day
