Are there any small cars which are also good for longer motorway trips? i.e reasonably comfortable, has enough whoomph to do 70 without screaming its nuts off and can overtake without causing a pileup?0

my 1.2L Micra (newer "bubble" model, not an old titchy one) copes fine with this, takes a wee while to get up to speed but is fine after that. Great for overtaking too, feels like there is plenty of power. For me, it isn't the most comfortable car ever, but its not like I'm in agony driving it for a long distance. Might be worth you checking it out thoughAre there any small cars which are also good for longer motorway trips? i.e reasonably comfortable, has enough whoomph to do 70 without screaming its nuts off and can overtake without causing a pileup?

Hi Sweetpeanut,
I've had my manual/auto Fiat Panda 1.2 Dynamic for 2 years now. I needed an auto because my left knee is knackered so couldn't use the clutch pedal on my VW Polo anymore. Yes, I do find I change gear myself sometimes because of the lag, but that's no hassle really - you just flick the lever up or down - and other than that I love it. The high driving position is great, parking is a breeze and there is reasonable leg room even in the back. The boot is very good for a small car - it's way bigger than the Aygo. When I was deciding I also tested the Aygo (the Citroen and Peugeot are the same car with different clothes on) and the Panda won out. It also does well on the motorways when I drive from Plymouth to King's Lynn to visit my friends there.
And James May off Top Gear has one, which might put you off, or not!
Hope this helps.Marsh Samphire0 -
