    Small - auto..........

Nope, can't do that can you. If you go for a small car then you have to have one of these stupid 'manual/automatics'. Basically a car with manual gear box that has an electronic clutch. Dreadful vehicles.

Go up a bit size wise, say for instance, a Focus - and get a proper automatic gearbox. Those stupid silly ones are really like roller skates and are so hesitant and slow and I think, a bit dangerous as they change gear when they really shouldn't and they change gear really really slowly............. yawn....

Test drive one if you don't believe me. But if it is tax and emissions that you are worried about and why you want a small auto, then you will have no choice than to buy one of these sillly ones. And if you are 'green' then you will still want one, as global warming has had such an impact of late. I tell myself this every time I scrape ice off my car or have yet another snow fall to deal with........ and remember the lovely summers we have had the last few years .... .... ....

Honest John reckons the Hyundai i10 is the best value around at the moment. 7 year warranty as well.

Small cars and autos? I agree with jeannie.

I knew there was a reason, deep down, why I loved you... :D

Small cars these days are just not proper auto's - they are awful. If you have not driven an automatic before, then you may think these silly little manual/automatic's are great........ But if you have driven an automatic and like the fact they change gear when they should and they hold on hills - then do not expect that from the small ones.... plus loads more of 'against's...

But it is the OP's choice at the end of the day (hate that phrase, sorry) and if that is what they want, then fine. Some people like them, but the people that like them are the ones that change the gears themselves, which kind of defeats the object! But they find that when in the so called 'auto' mode, they are slow and hesitant and change down or up when they really want the opposite!

Rant over - but I am being honest here to try and be helpful!

don't forget you can get something like the FIAT 500 with a sequential gearbox, so no clutch like an auto but you can control the gears yourself which seems like a good solution to the problem

I would go for a Corsa or even a Vauxhall Meriva.

    .

Interesting, I thought that all Hyundai's had a 5 year warranty, great news.

There is also a new Hyundai i20 out now, slightly bigger than the i10, but still in the small car category.

Auto Yaris are hard to come by, but OH has one and loves it. He downsized from the tank-like Volvo 760 auto and is impressed by the amount of room there is in such a "small" car.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
  • i have had both a corsa and and c3 and i loved to both of them although the c3 had the edge for me as it was only £35 a year to tax and it was a 1.4 diesel was a manual though which i think would be better. quite a bit of room in the c3 and has a few child friendly features

It might be, I did think twice before adding 7 years, or is that just the Kia?

As for wanting an auto though I have got to that stage in life as well so I know where the OP is coming from but thankfully we need a bigger engine so don't suffer any noticeable drop in performance.

Edit:- Inactive you are quite correct
