OS Daily Thread - Friday 13th February

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 13th February. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

Good morning dear OS friends,

I don't feel too bright this morning. Tried to sleep beyond 0330 but no luck, so gave in and got up. Haven't heard from Tristan despite a couple of emails sent. He is either still in high dudgeon with everyone or too poorly to log on. The silence is fairly hard to deal with but I believe my friend is home today so she will be able to mail me and get me up to date.

fairyelephant - nice to see you posting honey!
skintmumofthree - hobnobs never last long in this house either - try adding a tsp or so of ginger powder and a handful of dried fruit in too - it makes them even more scrumptious!
N9eav - sending good luck for Mrs N9eav for the interview.
Mudgekin - how annoying your SIL sounds and so selfish too. Maybe you could ask your DH to quietly ask her to ring first before arriving? My sister used to just turn up and eat everything in sight, my OH used to say she was like 'noonoo' the teletubbie hoover!
csarina - big big hugs for you honey
Congratulations R.Mac!

My OH went to Morrisons again last night and came home with some very cheap pastries which kept him happy with his cup of coffee for supper. He also picked up a large cold pasta, pepper and basil salad which was under half price. We threw it in a pan with a tin of chopped tomatoes, a bit of garlic and some bacon mis-shapes and had a big plate of pasta each with some grated cheese on top. It was really delicious, and very cheap!

I also did some baking yesterday and made a sticky ginger cake and a lemon victoria sponge with lemon butter icing; the former being a special treat for my OH as he has been working extra hard lately.

Had a test drive of the Hyundai i.800 - a huge huge 9 seater. Lots of space for me on the second row of seats but not so good in the passenger seat. Plus it's a silly amount of money, so crossing it off the list. We only really test drove it because my OH fell in love with it! It had tinted windows all the way round from the second row back so it was like being a movie star!

Fridays are quiet days chez Diva, so something simple for dinner tonight like fish cakes, beans and mash I think.

I hope everyone has a great day - Warm gentle hugs to those who need them.

Hi Diva, and all who follow,

I sometimes lurk here but rarely post, but just wanted to chat as I'm up with no-one to play with! Diva :hello:hello, haven't seen you around for a while, hope you're OK? early morning waking is a killer isn't it? Do you find it throws your body clock out for the whole day? I land up wanting my lunch at 11 am! I have a big cookathon planned for today with ISOM ready for filling my freezer in time for the arrival of my baby in a couple of weeks.

Which brings me to my next reason for popping on here, does anyone know if r.mac has posted her birth story anywhere? I've been waiting with interest, as I know she was planning a homebirth, as am I, but I gather things got complicated, sounds like everyone is very well and happy now-which is fab! Congrats r.mac :T:T:T:T, I'd love some details :o;)

OK I'll just pop off now and braise some offal. Hearts and kidneys in the slo-cooker...

    Love Weezl x

Hi MSD - sorry you're not feeling too good this morning. Hope you hear from Tristan soon, too. We're having mash and beans tonight, too, but with sausages I bought from the butcher's yesterday.

    R.Mac - congratulations to you!

Well, I was wide awake by 3.30 am; no doubt I shall make up for it later! In fact, I shall go and have a sit down on the sofa after I've posted this.

It's too early to see what the weather is doing but it looks quite clear at the moment. I think we even have some sun today, according to the weather forecast last night.

I shall try and do some baking today but that might be difficult because DH is at home this morning working on some quotes for future work. He'll have bits of paperwork all over the kitchen as usual, so I might not get the chance to do anything. Still, I won't complain if it means he has some more work lined up!

Well, I hope everyone has a good Friday 13th!

(((Hugs))) to all who are poorly or anxious.

    I'll catch up later.

    Morning everybody :hello:

I'm not up early, just up late. Am very tired but just can't fall asleep (I have sleeping problems but don't take anything for them)

But I've made quite a dent in the spare room decluttering, so am happy about that :)

weezl74 a cookathon? Sounds like fun! How will you be keeping each other updated?

That's it for now. Hugs to everyone who needs/wants one :D

Mellika - I used to have trouble getting to sleep but I stopped having anything with caffeine in it after about 7.30pm, and started having milky hot chocolate instead. I can get to sleep straightaway now. Even though I do still wake up early, at least I feel as if I've had some sleep.

Weezl - welcome to the Daily (or the Early-morningy!). Good luck with the baby!

Well I'm lucky enough to have met an MSE friend in the same city as me, so ISOM is popping over today at 10 :D, but we're going to post our recipes etc on the 50p a day thread just in case anyone else is interested!

Gonna make flapjacks for the midwives. You gotta keep em sweet I reckon!

Congrats on the decluttering, so satisfying!

ETA: Hi kathy, our posts crossed! thanks for the good luck wishes, fink I'll need em! :)

weezl That's SO lucky! I don't think there are any OS'ers in Teesside/Durham :( BTW, Definitely have to make those flap jacks for the midwives. Gotta make sure they're in an extra good mood for you :p PS: What does your hubby do?

mioliereI'm afraid I already don't drink coffee due to my Fibromyalgia. Still have sleeping problems. Not always, but every once in a while I go a couple of days without sleeping :(

Mellika - my youngest sister has Fibromyalgia; it's horrid, isn't it? She finds that not all GPs take it seriously but, since she moved to Lincolnshire a couple of years ago, her new GP is brilliant and will do anything to help. She found it hard to come to terms with when it was first diagnosed, but is currently doing an art degree course at her local college. They have set up a workstation for her own use as well as provided her with a 'buddie' to help her on the days when she needs to use her wheelchair. Her GP said that Fibromyalgia might not be life-threatening but it is certainly life-changing, and she is so relieved that he is interested in the condition and wants to help. I hope you are getting the same sort of help.

    Morning you early birds.

Friday 13th, have not had one of those for a while yikes2.gif
I remember as a teen (thankfully I still remember) going to see Friday the 13 part 3 in 3D at the cinema on Friday 13th.

Anyway first day of my 10 days off, although I have to go to work twice next week for court and a course. One I have to do the other I wanted to do.

Glad to say the OH was offered the job she went for yesterday as a GCSE maths coach. At this time it's stability and regular pay until a full time primary teaching post becomes vacant. biggrinbounce.gif. Keep her out of mischief anyway and it's right next door to the college so will cut down on 'lifts'

The part for my car came, so that can go in tomorrow. Paid today too. Big curry tonight I think.

Lots more painting to do today, but all seems well.

    Cheers goodvibes.gif

    Congrats to Mrs N9eav
MSD hope you hear from Tristan soon.

I got up up at 5.30 but been awake from 4.30 so will be shattered later. Lots of coffee this morning. I also stop drinking it from about 4pm - annoys me though that decaff coffee is so much more expensive.

Very cold here and some snow on the ground, thinks its meant to be better for the next few days, fingers crossed as its half term next week.

Didnt catch up with the thread yesterday, had a good visit with the accountant but got caught up in a hold up at the Dartford Crossing on the way back.

Have loads of office work but will ignore that and clean the house today. So vinegar, star drops and microfibre cloths at the ready.

If have time will do some baking, brie & bacon baguettes with side helping of chips for dinner.

Weezle, good luck & R.mac birth info is on the families board somewhere, the thread info was on yesterdays daily thread, HTH.
Sybil I've just read an article that says if toddlers have a good selection of gestures (as Little Bear does) then they will have a better vocab when they do start talking, hugs to you all.
    Congrats to Mrs N9eave
Hubby & I are off to work soon for another busy day.
    Breakfast - porridge
    Lunch - sarnies
    Tea - peppered steak
Hope everyone struggling in the snow stays safe, we're on flood watch here.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
