Another way of getting loads of leads is to go to a pet shop.
No paricular pet shop, i'm sure they are all as good as each other.
Don't get the ones with metal studs, they are chavvy, whatever that means!!

Joined this forum just to add my tuppence worth on Aquashield. A salesman knocked on my door today, usually I don't have anything to do with door to door salesmen, but he was polished and I need my gutterings cleared so I thought if it only cost £200, I might give it a try.

I gave him my details and he said somebody would call me in 5-10 minutes to arrange a visit and quote late today. This immediately made me think the whole thing was a con. It sounded like a double glazing company tactic. I said the saleman could only stay 10-15 minutes maximum. He agreed and said that's why their DVD is only 3 1/2 minutes long, they don't do the hard sell. 5 minutes later I got a call, with somebody asking if the saleman was polite and could they arrange to come round later. I said yes for 10-15 minutes and they said actually it takes 45 minutes to do the presentation. Luckily while I was talking I found this thread, found the comments about £2.5k-£5k quotes and nearly fell on my chair. The appointment booker gave me the spiel about getting two quotes, one valid for 12 months and the other a first person on the street price if I put a board up. I said, if the price is more than £200 there is no point coming out, at which point we both agreed it didn't make any sense to arrange quote.

Having read this thread, I'm glad I didn't let these guys into my house. Charging £2.5k for pressure hosing your roof and spraying what sounds like an unnecessary and potentially damaging coating is crazy. These sort of door to door sales tactics should be banned by trading standards.

Latest Costing for AQ:
The door 2 door man gets £30 if you book an appointment and have the rep round. He then gets £2.00 per square meter (the size of your roof).
His manager gets the same for his own work and £1 per mtre from each team member.
The salesman gets nowt for turning up, then £5.50 a mtrs commission at full price on a sliding scale.
His manager gets £1.00 for every meter he sells or can get a chance of going back with a better price if the saleman does not sell.
The fitters get £5.50 a mtr for the job, but have to come back for nothing if the job needs extra work. Average roof is 100mtrs so thats £500 for a roof.
The product must be at least £5 a mtr for 2 coats (if they do 2).
The company must make a profit so add another £5.
So thats about £25 per mtr as a minimum..... 100 mtrs =£2500 + vat and there you have it.
question is, who deserves what and how much is any one of these people worth????? Nobody in this theme get a penny if there are no sales, so iys not like a 9-5 job.

Power washing (or sealing,painting, or interfering at all) your concrete roof tiles is a BAD BAD idea . Before you even consider having this done I`d recommend you speak to the technical department of whichever manufacturer produced your tile .
I don`t know the intricacies but I do know that if you power wash your tiles then Marley , possibly the largest tile manufacturer in the Country , will invalidate your guarantee which originates as a 50 year guarantee .
I`d really not want to risk a 50 year guarantee only 9 years into the lifetime .

Thank you all for saving me!

I usually tell door to door sales that i rent and they clear off promto but today i could not as it obvious that i was decorating [not usually the job of a tenant lol I bet some landlords would like that though].

Door to door guy seemed ok and said he would come back tomorrow for quote...
Immediately I closed door got bad feeling...
Got phone call from them to arrange appointment about 3 minutes after I shut door...bad feeling rising, they wanted the Mrs [The Gaffer] available! Why???
Thought about this for a few minutes and bad feeling would not go away. My elderly father was done for terrible roof facing by some horrible cowboys last year and caused my parents terrible stress.
Phone and cancelled appointment then thought I would check internet and it brought me here!
If saleman does arrive he can sling his hook! [Even though I cancelled I bet they will arrive anyway].
We all have to work but companies that rob old folk in the comfort of their own home make me feel physically sick!
All door to door selling should be banned!
Only leaflets should be allowed, not people doorstepping the vunerable and trusting!
Anyway rant over...you live and learn!

Thank you ALL for saving me too! I saw a salesman yesterday, talk about the *HARD SELL* and health and safety issues BLAH, BLAH! I was bored to tears LOL, he wasn't very happy that my partners wasn't with me and kept moving away from me and made many phone calls to HQ, well who knows who he phoned! The body language was very negative, I have studied body language so I knew LOL, anyway thank you all very much, you have saved me a packet! xxx

there was a similar or same company on rogue traders - experts were saying you dont need such a product and its a waste of money.

for the prices theyre quoting you can get a roofer to re-tile all the bloody roof near enough.
