Im having probs with Vanquis to. Im on their Gold card. Ive had it for over two years now, and paid it off every month, with the exception of a few months where I couldnt afford to.

Things I have noticed with Vanquis once you start to have problems are:

They ring and ring all numbers you have on file, and... When I rang from a friends house one morning from a WITHELD number, they appear to have the software/technology to decrypt blocked numbers. Within a day of making that call, they started ringing on my friends number day and night - my friend ended up having to change their phone number and its caused friction between my friend and I now! They are surely breaking privacy laws by decrypting witheld numbers?

When you explain you have problems, they are most unsympathetic, and just keep hounding you until you break.

Their IMPACT COLLECTIONS parent company (definitely part of Vanquis) are just as bad. I offered them a plan recently to clear the card in full by the end of next month, and I wanted nothing more to do with them. Their answer was that I would have to wait a further month for interest charges to be calculated (which would amount to around £121 on my current balance). So they will make a bit more out of you no matter what you decided to do. I cancelled DD's I had with them when I specifically told them NOT to take the full amount every month and guess what? They emptied my bank account on more than one occasion.

I would advise anyone even considering a Vanquis card to look elsewhere. They are hawks! You will never ever get a decent service from Vanquis. I have not used my Vanquis card in over a year now.
  • hi all, I have been accepted by vanquis, which is my first step on the road to mainstream credit for mortgages etc maybe in future.

I was not told my credit limit over the phone but was offered 200 cash advance (I refused) does this mean I will have 250 limit?

Is it worth applying for catalogues or anything to speed up the recovery of my credit file? if so which ones are most open to poor credit historys?

not looking for lots of credit in its self just even renting property means a credit check.

    thank you all in advance.

  • hi all,

I have been accepted for vanquis card, they offered me 200 advance (refused) does this mean I will have a 250 limit? I had my phone call last monday which was bh so not sure when card will arrive.

someone earlier in the thread mentioned catalogues, is it worth opening a catalogue account and paying it off as I intend to do with this card, as I am looking to get back into main stream lending for property rental and eventually a mortgage.

do brian1960 never in doubt or bb still post here?

thanks to all and hello fellow vanquis-ers :)

omg things must be really, really bad to get refused by Vanquis lol

My experience of Vanquis was the same as the above: Offer of £200 cash advance which I refused and offer of payments protection if something happens which affects my income which the caller from Vanquis insisted is NOT ppi also refused. I got the card :)

I have a variety of defaults on my file, although none more recent than 3 or 4 years. I received an increase from £500 to £1000 recently.

Yes, they must be really, really bad. One of my aforementioned defaults was actually with Vanquis 4 years ago, not fully paid off, and they still accepted me as a new customer 4 months ago, and gave me an increase last week.
What on earth must someone do for Vanquis to turn them away?

Just remember the golden rule, never carry a balance on this card :) and you will be fine.. otherwise you can see the horror stories of people who build up a bigger and bigger balance and then suddenly can't pay it back!

How long did you have the card before you got an increase?
