A phone call is normally yes followed by selling their ppi and setting up a direct debit for the minimum payment.

I think the majority of people are aware of the pitfalls of Vanquis and their astronomical APR's. However if you are trying to rebuild your credit rating, sometimes Vanquis is all you can get and the only company prepared to look at you. However if used sensibly and paid in full every month there isn't a problem. It does what it says on the tin and helps you rebuild your credit rating.

I'm one of those people who couldn't get anything else - and to be fair Vanquis have kept their promises with me. They recently increased my credit limit and I don't borrow so don't pay the high rates.

Logically Vanquis is the only card I would ever need. But I can't help wanting a mainstream card once my files go clean with the CRAs in a few weeks time.
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.

I agree giblet10 if you pay in full then there is no need to worry and I guess their APR's have to reflect the risk people with bad credit ratings can pose to them, together with them needing to recover losses they get from people who don't pay run up a bill and then never pay. It seems a bit harsh as sometimes we all make mistakes somewhere down the line, I've made plenty of my own but I guess if you want the card and nobody else will give you it, you have to be prepared to pay for it.

I do think though that they could start people off at the top rate and then reduce it as their history of paying back what they use improves, like Cap One Progress. I pay in full every month but will still move to mainstream as soon as I can and close Vanquis simply because of the APR and the thought of what I may have to pay if I couldn't clear it one month, or had to amke an unforseen expense that I needed to repay over a few months.

All in all though (apart from I don't know what I have to do to get them to give me an increase!!!) I am happy that Vanquis were prepared to take a punt on me when no one else would because of past problems.

Just applied for a Vanquis card.

I have a Very account, £600 limit, Littlewoods account £500 limit, Next £150 limit, Studio £600 limit.
Had them all between 5-9 months now.

This will be my first credit card.

At the end of the application it said,

Thanks for your application for a Vanquis visa card
We almost have all the information we need but need to telephone you to confirm some details and will all you shortly - something along those lines.

    Have I been accepted?
What will the call entail? :)
  • Just had a letter increasing my credit limit from 1750 to 2250

Think my highest balance has been about 750 but paid it all off.

Had my card 18 months now...total interest payments I have paid amount to 12.57 and a nice string of green zeros on my credit report

Likely acceptance, the call will entail setting up a direct debit and trying to sell you PPI.

Just appled for a Aqua card and been accepted with a £500 limit.
So that's three cards, not applying for anymore now till I've had these for at least a year.

I read on another site you shouldn't use a credit card to pay living costs then repay it at the end of the money, but I'm going to be doing that, can someone confirm I'm okay to do that and that's the right thing to do?

Now I have 3 cards, after a year how likely am I to get a 0% prime card? :T

I use them to only put the smallest amounts on each month, Shows it's being used. You really don't want to run the risk of possibly having a balance on these cards. Only put on what you could afford to pay off right then and there if you had to!
