am i ok to cancel the direct debit and just pay the full amount off online every month?

If you so wish, yes. But remember then that the onus is 100% on you to make the payment each month no excuses, no get out clause :o

  • Hello I wonder if anyone can help me. This is the first credit card I have ever had, and Im pretty confused. I got my card through the post today, if for example I spent £100 today then paid it back in two days time when I get paid, will this count against me? I have heard people saying about waiting until the statement comes in before making a payment but I dont want to wait that long. Will it have a negative impact on my credit if I do this? Really sorry to sound thick, this card is just a great opportunity for me to improve my credit and I dont want to mess it up
    Thanks!

Out of curiosity when did you apply for your card? And how long between then and you receiving it today, did you receive it?

And no, I dont think it will harm your credit file.
But someone will be along soon to confirm this :-)
  • Hi thanks for getting back to me :o I applied on the 19th of Jan and had a call on the 20th saying I had been accepted. I recieved my card and pin both today (pretty sure they are not supposed to do that but oh well.) So it took 9 days from applying to getting my card and pin. Im still in shock that I even got accepted, really cant be messing this up so I want to be 100% sure before spending anything.

Will spending £100 straight off look bad or go against me? Im wondering whether I should just wait until I get paid to buy what I want to buy and just buy small things with this card

If you pay off before your statment, it will look like its dormant to others and maybe even vanquis
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • How long does it take Vanquis to update a closed card as settled with the credit references agencies? I closed my account 6 months ago and my credit files still show the card as active.

For whatever it's worth, I received my card today and within about 15 minutes of activating it I'd spent nearly £30 quid total of the £100 limit on a Tesco home delivery :)

That's really all I plan to use it for as far as I can see - do a home delivery, pay it off over a number of weeks (while using up the stuff I ordered) and then do another one.

My car should hopefully arrived tomorrow. I phoned them up last week friday said i was accepted car should arrive soon.

Is your credit rating bad? quite surprised they gave you just £100. They gave me £250, 18 w/o any credit history, just load of searches in a month!
