'17 Jul 11 BILLED DEFERRED FINANCE CHARGES £6.66"

Just one of the mystical, hilarious charges that Vanquis customers seem happy to put up with :)

it's been well over a month now since i applied with these, not a whisper, some tell me it took them nine weeks etc to get back .. are they taking an age of late to process things? it's impossible to get through even on that number that's posted now and then to speak to an operator ... it just cuts off for me

Thanks your right , though the interest free period is a bit confusing, maybe I will wait a while.

Vanquis customers are not 'happy' to put up with charges such as the above and a quick phonecall to their CS will result in it being instantly removed!

You seem to forget KingElvis that some people have no choice about having a Vanquis card - Someone posted on here recently that they had never had a CC before, Earn 30k a year and was turned down by 3 'main' lenders before getting a Vanquis card - Not their first choice by any means but certainly it seems especially in the current climate their only choice.

I waited 9 weeks for my card:eek:And it was posted on here recently that Vanquis are experiencing delays with card issuing - Hopefully you will get it soon

I applied for the Granite card through Vanquis, it said they would contact me in 48 hours. I kept missing there calls apparently and had forgotton all about it. About 5 weeks later I got a call and they approved me for the card. It arrived the following week with a £250 limit and a 59.9% APR. It is really high but if it is all you can get and you use it every month and then pay it off, I think it is worth it to help rebuild your credit rating. After all you have to start somewhere, the key is to use it for a small purchase and make sure you pay it in full!

Anyway after qualifying for Granite, I decided to look at what else was available for people with previous credit problems, I found the AQUA Mastercard (which I had previously been turned down for), so thought what the hell, they can only say no! I applied online and got approved for a card again with a £250 limit but the APR is much better at 34.9%. I have a CCJ from 11/05 on my credit report and also 2 defaults still showing, so it is always worth a try, as long as you are sure you can be responsible enough to use them frugally and repay in full each month.

So for me after nearly six years of financial hell it is starting to come around and I can start to rebuild my credit rating in the coming months.

Also last night I logged into my online banking with the Halifax. I have been with them for 3 years with a basic bank account (Easycash) and they have asked me a number of times if I wanted to upgrade to a current account but each time I have been turned down. So I thought give it a go, I applied online for the current account, said no to the checkbook and overdraft questions and they accepted me and opened the account. I do not know if getting the Granite card has played a part in it but it is ironic that having been turned down several times by the Halifax and also having been refused by Aqua, it has suddenly turned around.

Vanquis and Granite are definately mega expensive but it does seem worth it to get back on the ladder, just don't run up a debt on their cards!
