I over paid one month by about £9 just used the card as normal afterwards.

Overpaying your card by mistake, and paying in £50 onto your card so you can make a £550 purchase (when your limit is £500) are two different things. They don't care about the former - the latter will be seen as going over your limit, and purposely putting your account in credit.

Why not just use your card to pay £500 and pay £20 in cash.

because it's an online purchase ;-)

yes difinitely avoid - knowing Vanquis they will freeze your card! you could call the retailer and see if the will take payment off two cards - as long as you pay a minimum of £100 on your credit card you will still be covered.

It's probably worth pointing out that Section 75 covers you for purchases over £100 - this doesn't mean you have to put at least £100 on the card. You could put just £10 on the card and the full cost would still be reimbursed if anything went wrong.

I applied to Vanquis for a credit card and at the end of my application I had a "congratulations" message saying my application had been accepted and that I would receive a call from them in the next few days!

Does this mean I've been accepted for the card or could it still be declined as I was declined straight away the last time I applied 12 months ago?

I not being funny, but if it says "congratulations you have been accepted" why would you think that means you haven't got it?

Just make sure you can take their phone call!!!

From what I remember I'm sure the message said something like "Congratulations your application has been submitted successfully"...nothing about actually being accepted.

Maybe they do this for everyone though and it's just a get out clause if they need to use it.

Me me! Pick me! #3 in the "declined by Vanquis" club.
I'd been in the country only 2 months, and had nothing except a basic bank account to my name.

Congratulations - just steer clear of their high rate interest and you'll be fine. When I was paying the concierge at KFC for my lunch earlier she remarked on the 'nice colour' of my Vanquis card - I thought it was pretty average looking myself...
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.
