Good! Certainly looks like a card will be on its way. Good work.

If you check the Direct Debit details on your bank's online banking, you can get the reference starting 4023, which is your 16 digit VISA card number.

You can call them up quoting this and they may be able to confirm when to expect your card and what your limit is :o
they are in process of changing DD's so that it doesnt include teh card number

I've just been excepted for the Vanquis card today (only applied yesterday), the guy on the phone mentioned my DD was being set up to take min payment each month, but I'm assuming I can instruct them to change it so that it pays the full outstanding balance each month?

    Yes, you can.

  • I rang up and closed my Vanquis account today! :)

After 2.5 years I still only have a £750 limit but I guess it served its purpose at the time.

Very satisfying to put a big pair of scissors through the card. :)

Just remember new accounts hurt your credit worthiness until they've been open a while.

Maintaining old accounts does your credit file more good than taking out new ones and chopping / changing :o

Trust me, Vanquis is the only one I could get - I only wish I could chop and change :o

Give it a year, you'll get yer capital one classic.

Give it another year, you'll get a capital one progress.

Just avoid applying for stuff in the mean time :o

(I know it's possible, I got progress two and a half years after bankruptcy)

Well, here's what I want - tell me what you think:

In Feb 2012 everything should drop off - everything went green this week (I mean defaults from when I did IVA in 2006 - it's taken a while but all now show Satisfied with zero balances) and is dated as such.

I applied for Aqua (soft search) but they said no. Ditto with Barclaycard. The only hard search is Cap One and Vanquis over recent months and as you say, I will hold off doing any more now.

I have Vanquis as you know. I REALLY miss my AMEX card but I know I need good credit to get one of those. So, let's say by Feb I have a £1k limit with Vanquis showing in good stead on CRAs - any trace of IVA should be gone too - what are my chances of getting:

    1) MBNA Visa (nice looking) or better still MBNA Amex (nicer looking)
    -or-
    2) Barclaycard (recognisable as mainstream)
    -or-
    3) Sygma Silver (nice looking)

I did sadly default with MBNA and Barclaycard and Cap One - but others have seemingly been able to get new cards with these org's in a similar situation to me.

What do you reckon? I just don't want to go sub prime in a years time when I will have a clean file. Unless I have to.

If your Vanquis card is the only card you've held since your IVA your chances of getting a "proper" card so soon are NIL.

Take out a Capital One Progress in February after checking that everything has dropped off; and once you've held that for a year along side your Vanquis you will be in a very strong position to apply for the likes of MBNA Visa or Barclaycard Gold.

Until then? Don't waste the search :o
