  • The interest rate is truely shocking 59%, but i suppose that is the price to pay for now. That alone will scare me away from overspending.

Congratulations! Our stories sound similar, I had problems in 2006 and 2007. I got a Vanquis card on the advice here in Feb 2009 and it is working well for me building up good credit on my report. They have given me regular increases too - but that's the danger. I do try to pay off the full amount every month and would really recommend this in order to get the increases though if they offer me another one I think I shall refuse. Good luck with things.

    Kind regards, MG

  • Hi LuLu, sounds like good news hope it all comes together & you get that welcome pack soon. We can start our quest for prime together. LOL.

MG thanx for the kind words, good to know there is some light @ the end of the dark dark tunnel. What was your initial limit? & how long do they normally take to increase, not that i`m concerned about that. Now that I know that i can live within my means will deffo stick to that & just pay of small balances @ the end of the month. Just wanna get the credit file repaired as best I can. X
  • I have just received the new granite card, by Vanquis. I applied (and had the call) on Mon 6th sept and it arrived exactly 1 week later. Just waiting for the pin to come through now.

I am in the same boat as many of you- a couple of defaults and 1 CCJ. I am pleased I have been given the opportunity to rebuild my credit.

Question: I got my CCJ in 2008 and this stays on your credit history for 6 years doesn't it? Can I still rebuild my credit rating and get a 'mainstream' card (say, in 18 months time), even if the CCJ stays on the report for 4 years more?

Has anyone managed to do this?
    Overdraft: £2,000 Paid Off: £0
    CC: RBS Mastercard-Limit £1050 Balance £300
CC: Granite/Vanquis - Limit:£750 Balance £0 (pay off in full every month).
Very- Online store account: Limit: £950- Balance £200.
Simply Be online Account: Limit: £350. Balance £0

In my experience it is next to impossible to get a mainstream card with a CCJ.

I have a Vanquis, Capital One and Barclays Initial.

My (satisfied) CCJ falls off end of next year, I hope that by then, my credit report will be more attractive to a mainstream lender.

Antoinette, my initial limit was £250. It went up after 4 months to £500 and then every four months again and am now at £2500. In February 2011 I will have had 36 months of good behaviour elsewhere as well as 24 on Vanquis so will try for a mainstream then but for the moment am happy with Vanquis. Bw, MGx
