i got turned down for vanquis but here is the odd thing i have a credit account with littlewoods catalogue
  • I was turned down for Vanquis in Oct 09, and Barclaycard Initial (I think that's the name!) in Dec 09. However, I'd not long moved and was midway through my financial woes (only got £227 of debt left! - but need to check experian etc just to be doubly sure!). I was quite surprised that Vanquis had turned me down before (they also turned me down in April 09), because I had 3 Provident loans - which were upto date with no missed payments at all (they still show on my report from Call Credit, even though they were all paid off last yr) - and Vanquis are part of the Provident group, aren't they?

    Hey

I got my card through yesterday and I just called to activate it. They are asking for a security number, I have tried my date of birth but thats not working. Does anyone have any idea what number they may use.
    Thanks

It will be your DOB unless you specified otherwise when you applied. Six digits - so if you were born on 9th April 1959 it would be 090459 - don't forget the zeroes.

Hi, I was accepted for one of these Vanquis rip off cards and when doing the activation phone call they managed to flog me some kind of insurance product (I think)...

The end result is I have a £250 limit and I have not used the card EVER, yet I am still being charged about £6 a month for some reason.

Anyone know how I can get them to stop charging me for this.

Will it affect my credit in a negative way if I just ask them to close the account?

I also have a capital one account and they have just bumped my limit up to £800, so all things considered I don't need the £250 Vanquis has to offer anymore.

Vanquis seems to be more generous with increases, whereas Cap1 may leave you there after the first increase for a loooong time. So in a year, Vanquis could suit you better (if not ready to go prime).

Call vanquis and cancel that PPI (if it is), and pay the statement back earlier than the due date (as soon as possible after the statement). As long as it's free, it doesn't hurt to keep it open - it would demonstrate stability as it ages (though it's better if you occasionally buy something on it.)
    Enjoy the silence...

Ring them and tell you you want to cancel whatever it is that is charging you £6 a month. Sounds like their ID protection service.
