Well done! You're on the way forward now :)

I'd suggest in six months time applying for an Aqua Mastercard, six months after that a Capital One Progress, and six months after that you will in all likelihood be approved for a Sygma card like the Silver or Creation cards - sub-20% APR, tidy limit, and easy to get.

A solid 18 month plan that should bring you right back up to prime :o

I Have already applied for a capitalone progress card (on the same day as the vanquis) which I know wasnt wise, but my application is progressing nicely, I have just sent off some documents to prove my address with capitalone so it looks as if ive been accepted :)

I applied 8 months ago for a cap1 progress card and a vanquis card.

Cap1 progress accepted me. Vanquis declined me.

I applied again to vanquis last Sunday - heard nowt. I am assuming it's another declne.

The Cap1 Progress card is good tho. Went from 300 opening limit to 800 and I have had my first reduction in Interest rate.

I will not cry if vanquis decline me.

i just paid off my Vanquis card - borrowed money off "mam" !!!

    i strongly advise

DO NOT OPEN A VANQUIS CARD ACCOUNT

the interest is extortionate and they whack on charges all the time, they really are !!!!!!!s !!

Really! I've had a Vanquis Card now for 5 months and I've not paid a penny in interest, nor have I had any charges "whacked" on.

I'd suggest you weren't running the card properly to get the charges and not paying the balance off in full each month to have been charged interest.

You're asking for trouble if you run a Vanquis that way...

Have to agree with you there :)

I've had my Vanquis over a year, got a £2250 limit now ... Never in all my time with them have I had a charge put on my account.

Odd bit of interest yes, but I pay off in full pretty much all of the time.

I don't mind that, after all ... they initially helped me when no one else would and why shouldn't they make a few quid from me for offering a service which other providers wouldn't?!!

People on here do make me smile when they moan and kick off about Vanquis, they are a business like any other and in most cases we should be grateful they were willing to offer us a card!

I've now managed to get two Natwest Credit Cards and a Tesco Credit Card ... I put this down to the help of Vanquis allowing me to build my history back up.

    Totally agree with you both.
I have never had any 'charges' with Vanquis other than little bits of interest.
I love my Vanquis card purely because they gave me a 'chance' and even though I now have 2 PRIME cards, Natwest and Asda I have still kept and used my little 'V'

Whilst I see where you're coming from, if you read my post you'll see that this didn't happen for me at all. Thankfully they've now refunded all interest charges they put on, but it has been a hassle sorting it out.

Applied late last Sat night - just had a call (at work) from Vanquis to say i had been accepted. True to form from what posters have said yes she did try and sell me the PPI and offered me a cash advance (£200) which I refused both. I was then told my card/pin would be with me within a few days.
I presume I'll only have a low credit limit to start with - most likely the £200 lol - but then i'm only gonna use this as a credit builder, nice and sensible cos by god have i learned my lesson. Oh and got an APR of 39.9% - a year ago it would have been the 69.9%!

Card arrived yesterday with £500 limit. Now I have the opportunity to rebuild my credit file, so here's to making small purchases and paying off in full for the first two to three months, then might start leaving a 'trailing' small balance for a couple of months after that and see if that gets me an increase. Hopefully within the next 12 - 18 months I might be able to go for a prime card.

I applied for a card a few months ago (can't remember when) and they phoned me on my mobile several times. They said they needed to go through the application over the phone so I told them to forget it. Wonder why they needed to do that?
