I remember when you got accepted! Mine is still at £500 - keep meaning to send the card back to them :rotfl: :rotfl:
Hi NID yes read the posts but don't always post, can't believe I've had the Vanquis card almost one year. Hope they don't send me that Gold Card:eek: I see you're still helping folk, I think the forum is so valuble, it's taught me quite a bit x0 -
Vanquis imply that when considering you for an increase in limit, they do a soft search of your credit file as they encourage you to keep all your other commitments up do date also.
When Vanquis do the soft search, can we see it on our file with Experian and Equifax (a table 2 search?) Or are these soft searches invisible to us in our own reports too?
I'm just trying to understand why they won't give me an increase. I had a few late payments on my mobile in 2009 but I've been clean for everything in 2010. Defaults (2) and CCJ's (2) that were on my file when I took out my Vanquis card have now dropped off and I've a perfect record with Vanquis themselves, paying off a mixture of full balances, minimum payments and amounts in between. Never late, never over limit.
It's very annoying!Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -

They don't do soft searches, they subscribe to CAIS which means they get a monthly update direct form Experian to see how you're doing elsewhere. There is no record of this happening on your credit file.
A lot of financial institutions do this, especially the major high street banks, which helps them decide what to pre-approve you for
EDIT: If your record is now clean, give it a few months without applying and then go for a Sygma Silver card. No point keeping sub prime cards if you've got no adverse!Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Sygma silver and Flybe both said no recently. I will try again in January. I still have a few late payment markers on my file in the last 12 months (none since January).
Cap One have recently said yes after years of saying no. My income is £13,600 a year gross and my credit limits total £950 (see signature) and I average out at using 60-65% of it during any given month.
If Vanquis upped my limit to £750 then I'd be using around 25-30% which looks more responsible lol.
My OH has a Vanquis card with £1500 limit (despite going over limit twice and being charged 2 x £12) and it's very frustrating having to put any largeish purchases on that one every single time because that's where the spending power is.
My card, all I can do is put petrol and fags on it and pay it off when the statement comes in. :mad:Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -
LOL a few posts up I mentioned now Vanquis put my limit up another thousand, please don't send me the Gold card?
Well, got a letter this morning, the Gold card is on its way:D0 -
My limit was upped to £500 a few months ago, and included some nice credit card cheques and a note saying 'would you like a quick easy advance into your bank account?' with the letter saying so! If they raise it again I'll ask them to put it back down - I'm an 18 year old 6th former !!!!!!! I've got this card partly with the hope that it will enable me to get a big interest free overdraft when I go to uni in a few months; when I do go I'll cancel it and maybe get a student credit card instead. Meanwhile I've also been accepted for a 12 month SIM only contract with voda which should help as well.0

Well done you. That's a darn responsible decision to make re: asking them to reduce it if it goes up again. Keep up that attitude toward credit and you'll never go wrong
And the good thing with Student credit cards (when you head up to Uni) is the limit tends to be capped at £500 save from allowing you to incur ridiculous debt.

Good man :beer:Well I barely have £500 in the bank usually, so it would be ridiculous to be able to spend more than that.
Ah I see about student credit cards. Also the rate should be slightly less hideous than my current vanquis 60%, in case I ever actually need to not pay off in full.0 -

Had my Vanquis card nearly a year now and had £250 limit from the start. Yesterday I got a text message with the sender as "CardService" saying that my Vanquis credit limited has been increased to £1000. It also stated my current balance as of 25/06/2010 which matches what I owe on this months statement.
I'm scared to use it in case it hasn't been increased and it declines at the till!
But I take it it must be genuine if whoever the texter was knew my current balance!0
