Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.
Morning peeps
It`s quite a bit warmer today and all the roads are covered in water and slush. I fear that there will be lots of flooding today as the white stuff melts away. I haven`t seen the weather forecast yet but it`s noticeably warmer. I looked out of the window last night and it was snowing again so i was quite surprised this morning.
For tea last night we had sausage and onion pasta in chicken sauce ( chicken condensed soup)
which was very nice and today i plan on making hm pizza. I have taken some bacon out of the freezer this morning and i shall be making some yummy lentil and bacon soup this evening to see us though for lunches the next couple of days.
I`ve not done any baking for a while and there is only one piece of cake left in the freezer so i predict a bake-a-thon this weekend, i have a strange hankering for parkin so that`s one cake that will be on the list, maybe blackcurrant oat bars too as i still have some blackberries in the freezer too.
The freezer is nicely on the way to being emptied so a defrost will be on the cards in a couple of weeks and then i can work on filling it all up again
I`m off to do some w*rk now so i shall catch up with all you lovely peeps later.
((((HUGS)))) to everyone today needed or not.
Keep safe and warm everyone.

Morning all
I'ts lashing down here in Berkshire, no snow though, so at least I'll be able to get to work.
I've joined readitswapit, & have swapped 6 books already.
Found out yesterday that a staff member is making a formal complaint about there being only one of me in my department, I need to see my line manager about that. I've made lists of what I do & the speed jobs take to complete, not my speed, the speed of the machines, I don't see that I can do much about that. I could work longer hours, I do 7:30 til 4 most days, but I know they won't pay me any extra, but if it means job security I'd do it.
Breakfast - porridge
Lunch - egg sarnies
Tea - lamb stew
I hope everyone has a good day.
Hugs Hester

Morning. The wind and rain has passed through and it looks to be a very nice day.
I am going to start decorating today and get some paint on the walls. Part of me is not very enthusiastic about it, but I guess it has to be done. I will need to get the car fixed later, hopefully the part will have come in.
Nothing much else to report here. It's all a little dull really.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Hi all - we've had rain, rain and more rain, but no snow and it's a bit milder today. I feel for everyone who has had yet more snow and hope you are all coping.
I'm actually up later than usual this morning so this is a hurried first post because I need to get DH up soon!
Dinner tonight is undecided at the moment, as is pudding - we had a busy day yesterday and any form of planning went out of the window!
Anyway, I'll call back later when I'm a bit more organised.
Have a great day and (((hugs))) to all who are feeling unwell, sad or anxious.

Morning all,
The met office has announced 98 severe flood warnings across the south of England, which is where we are  , it rains all day yesterday without a break, and it looks like we are in for it again today.
Need to have a quick tidy through today, and do a wash, sausage and mash tonight with onion gravy and cauli, cabbage and carrots. I will also prepare a chicken casserole for tomorrow's tea.
I am also going to sit and write a letter to my nephew who is in the home in Guildford, it is the best place for him, but he is feeling very homesick, so will write him a long letter and put some pocket money in.
Bit of paperwork to do, and a game of scrabble to be played.
Hugs where needed,
R-mac I am assuming from your absence what we are all virtual Aunties and Uncles, hope everything is ok xx
Edited to say, I have just looked on R-mac's FB, I think she might have some good news to tell us :T I wont say anymore, as I am sure she will want to say herself :j0 -
Morning All
Cant wait to hear from RMac then......
Not raining at the moment but very wet out there, quite windy - hope it dries up.
Mixture today - housework, paperwork, ironing. Made a chocolate mayo cake at the weekend which wasnt very nice at all, have found another recipe so I might try and make that today. Had to make rice crispie cakes yesterday for a choc fix.
HM steak pie today with some braising steak and also some meat left over from Sunday, need to go & nick a can of OH's bitter to put in there too.
Waiting for an argos del today, have ordered a cordless sweeper which I am hoping to use daily for the kitchen so I dont have to get henry out all the time. Also some new scales. Have a lakeland order coming too - mainly bits I needed but some wants as well.:D
So I need to watch the budget for a bit, half term next week will have a look what we can do on the cheap.
Have a good day & I hope noone gets flooded.

Good morning, we still have the remains of yesterdays snow and our fantastic snow girl is still in the front garden, she is beautifully glistening with frost this morning! Kids made her last night. My grumpy son was very grumpy that I had so much to do after school yesterday.....told him to lose the attitude, I'd been at work etc etc turns out all he wanted to do was be at home to play in the snow!! awwh!
I went to bed early with a very sore head but have woken quite refreshed this morning.WM to go on and another monster ironing pile has been created . So will have to tackle that at some point.
I hope all of you down south avoid the floods and those who are snowy stay warm and those in Oz (including my OH) stay safe from the fires.
Enjoy your Tuesday,Mx0 -

Morning everyone!
Hope you are all well today - hugs to everyone, whether you need one or not.
I'm up and on the go early as DH has a hospital appointment in Glasgow today. So, he's up and away and will be on the first flight down there. The weather in the Hebrides is dry and frost free, but who knows what the rest of the day will bring
Managed to get two loads of washing dry outside yesterday, a load of towels and a load of clothes, so I was very pleased.
Just had a bowl of cereal for breakfast, lunch will be soup and a roll and tea will be a surprise out of the freezer most likely.
Looking forward to hearing R Mac's news - when she gets a minute!
Have a good day!0 -
Morning all
Wet and windy here in Kent. So windy I have just had to drag the door that came off the greenhouse onto the ground as it was dangerously leaning on the greenhouse. One gust and it would have crashed down. Feeling very brave cos it's up the top of the garden surrounded by bushes and creepie crawlies and I never venture up there. Good job it was in the winter, felt safe that nothing would crawl onto me
Not alot going on here today. The usual housework, bathroom clean and some ironing to keep me amused, oh and one ear on the doorbell as am expecting a parcel.
What a contrast to those poor people in Australia who have lost their homes and loved ones because of the fire and to here where you see all the snow falling, and, people wary of the floods that might arrive today. Thoughts with them all.
Have a good day all.0 -
Morning all,
laptop back from computer hospital!! woo-hoo!!! I wait to see if it lasts more than a day or so this time....
Uni this afternoon, though I need to pop into placement first to get a report signed before handing in. Just hit the half-way point in this final placement, so it's downhill all the way now!
Will make a bread-wrap sandwich of some description to take for lunch & dinner will be either HM toad-in-the-hole & mash, or sausage, bacon, black pudding, mushrooms (ok, a cooked breakfast at night..!!).
Did apple & blueberry crumble last night with some YS blueberries that never made it into muffins, and some apple I'd stewed from what was left shrivelling in the fruit bowl. I felt very pleased with myself as I would always previously have thrown them out...
Must sort myself out a proper compost area down the bottom of the garden, and get a bucket to tuck away to use as an in-between storage receptacle!! lol... Although no vegetable patch will be constructed until the snow, floods, swarms of locusts and anything else leaves us alone.
Hester, you shouldn't be put under that sort of pressure - sounds like you work plenty long enough hours as it is. Perhaps the complaint may encourage them to appoint someone else to help you??
RMac, can't wait to get an update...
Redruby, ((hugs))) to your nephew, it must be a very tough situation for you both to be in.
EssexGirl, MrBadExample's chocolate yogurt cake is lovely - maybe worth a try? (recipe on here somewhere, no idea how to search for it - searches never seem to work for me!) I was going to buy a little cordless hoover for my kitchen/stairs - I have a henry too for the rest of the house, but it is a pain getting a big hoover out all the time. May have a look at the cordless sweeper as well.
Halight, ooh, sounds like a very posh dinner! Still keeping fingers crossed something comes up for you soon.
Anyhow, enough mioliering now - time for a second cuppa & then to get up & moving. Am feeling quite chirpy - my mum said my little sis is planning to move back from Bognor (she's been there a couple of years), so it will be fantastic to have her & my little niece back here again
Have a good day all, thinking of all those suffering in Oz, and (((hugs)))) to all those feeling poorly or having tough times.
