    Once the truecall box is initially set up and programmed with your phone book via weblink there is little need to use the web interface, apart from seeing the statistics on how well it is working. I haven't used the web for it in a couple of months. Also after the first year there is an annual subscription for the web so will probably get cancelled anyway.

    New incoming phone numbers can be added using the telephone handset by * them after the whisper challenge. Programming changes can also be made using the telephone handset.

    So once the truecall box is set up it might be worth disabling scheduled weblink and re-introducing the Orchid - or use my solution and temporarily physically bypass the orchid box and do a weblink manually at week-ends. ( But remember to tell the rest of the family so they don't make calls to Zimbabwe via virgin by mistake!!! )

    I did dial the truecall modem number from the dect phone through orchid, so it does connect, so suspect it is something to do with the delay caused by the Orchid. I even tried programming the orchid with the number as direct rather then via 18185 but still no joy.

    The same problem may exist with other dialing boxes so might not be speciffic to the orchid/truecall combination.

    I'll try doing without the weblink and see how I do. I do use a customised profile which would be too much effort to set up via the handset - I hope the box will remember this indefinitely. (Due to a loose power plug the box lost power for a second this morning, when it regained power it prompted me to set up my greeting message, which I prefer to leave as default. I hope it doesn't reset anything else when it loses power.)

    The truecall box does seem to remember the setting during power outages, but I too have had the prompt to set up greeting message - I also ignore this and use defaults.

    It also dials a number at power on, I suspect to pick up the time, and this seems to work OK via the Orchid box.

    After I put the orchid box back in, I had three calls that should have been put straight through where the phone didn't ring at all. Maybe they just hung up too soon, as I think there are a few silent rings first.

    This morning I had workmen coming, they rang me from the gate intercom, my phone didn't ring at all. That gate intercom is a starred number. The workmem used mobile to phone me, it should have been put straight through, my phone didn't ring at all.

    I tested from Skype, which because it's number not recognised, will be screened. With the orchid in the chain, there is a silent response from the truecall box, when I take the orchid out of the chain it works properly, I hear the standard "Hello" greeting.

    It's a long shot, but I seem to recall someone saying that, in order for a Truecall and an Orchid to work together, the Orchid needs to be a V4+ (additional power supply).

    Is yours?
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    My orchid is a standard unpowered one, so needs the order in post #738 with webupdates done manually.

    For a V4+ I would think the order would be
    Socket -> truecall -> V4+ -> phone
    So the truecall could get the webupdate calls out, and the V4+ Orchid will work as is not relying on the truecall for power.

    My truecall is a trueCall Classic Version: 3.12/1.12
    Cjking - if you click on support on the weblink webpage do you have a different model. The latest models are different hardware/software so may be less compatible with the unpowered Orchid.

    May not be practical but how about a splitter...

    Socket ->
    splitter -> truecall -> Phone 1 ( with ringer turned on for incoming )
    splitter -> orchid -> Phone 2 ( with ringer turned off for outgoing )

    On the Truecall support page I get "Version: 34.10/6.5"

    I don't know the Orchid version, it is plugged into a power supply, though there's no LED showing me if it's getting power. (I think the LED is for some other purpose than showing power?)

    Just before he left I got workman to re-ring me from his mobile, with the orchid out of the loop, after a few silent rings my phone started ringing. He said when he rang me previously (when the orchid was in the loop and I heard nothing) he had heard ringing for over a minute.

    I do also have a modem from a switched off computer plugged into the other orchid socket, I assume that's not affecting anything. When I originally concluded the two were incompatible, disconnecting the modem didn't help.

    I wonder if connecting a second phone, with the ringer off, to be used only for outgoing calls, would work. So the order would be:-

    socket->ADSL filter->double-adapter->Truecall->cordless base station
    socket->ADSL filter->double-adapter->orchid->second phone

    Edit: sorry I see that's already been suggested.

    A copy is available here

    I've also put up my version for Virgin M ( week-end inclusive calls ) with 18185
    Main differences are access number for 18185, DNQ calls are free with Virgin, 0870 is free with virgin at w/e, 0500 ( Mercury freephone ) did not work with 18185 so routed via Virgin. Some 084 & 087 prefixes did not work with the original spreadsheet so made more generic.

    A mentioned here I unfortunately cannot provide support for these spreadsheets - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=60352515&postcount=731
  • Many Thanks for the spreadsheet blanik.

    I have used my Orchid on a BT line without any issues for many years and without the need to update the routing. However, I am now moving my line rental and calls to the Post Office and want to make some changes.

    I am new to this and do not have a modem and am not very clued up about how to use/set one up. Do you have to use a modem to input the details or can you simply dial the programming code from a telephone to update the orchid dialler?
