    Thanks for reminder (and procedure).
  • Thanks again. I'm now using a tone dialler on my smartphone to enter the data, but I still worry that there's no way to check it's worked

I have been lurking here for many years and appreciate all the support you have given Heinz.I have a V4 and CPS with Primus,it was set up so long ago I have forgotten more than I remember.I am with O2 for broadband and BT for line rental.I had hoped to retain the BT line when Sky shut the O2 network down purely to allow the Orchid dialer, which has saved me hundreds of pounds over the years. With the prospect of BT not allowing CPS in the future I feel I should be exploring alternative strategies ie VOIP/GPS gateways . Is there already a similar group/forum or could we create a similar friendly forum such as this to discuss the way forward.I don't think any other provider allows CPS, does Virgin allow VOIP over its fibre?.Idont really want my line rental to go to sky either so my choice of Broadband provider will be dependent on the strategy I choose.
    Rgds oldgit:(

My sentiments exactly. I appreciate the support of Heinz, the team & this thread.

My V4 Orchid Dialler has been essential for the last 4 years. My bills used to be eye watering.

My Line Rental was BT and CPS was Primus/New Call.
    My Broadband was O2.
    My TV is with Sky.

Ive been offered a reasonably good deal with SKY to bring all 3 together.

***Phone Line Rental - I have the Orchid Dialler for Override numbers 18185 & Primus as CPS. As I have signed up to Anytime Talktime with SKY, have i made my Orchid dialler redundant?? I love that device!!
All numbers are now free, except International & mobiles - I was surprised with this but hope to make a saving as I spend £10/£12 (in total) monthly to BT, 18185 & Primus New Call on calls only.

Any thoughts on the issues above would be good!

I presume you have signed up to Sky Anytime.

So free for UK landlines, including 0845 and 0870 numbers, you will still be paying for 0844 and 0871 etc.

For international and mobile you could still use you orchid box with 18185 using the freephone number to save on these calls.

I hope you don't think you still have Primus CPS (you don't, only BT - currently - allows CPS).

As blanik says, you will have to re-program the Orchid to use the 08081703703 access number for those numbers which are cheaper using 18185.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Yes signed to Sky Anytime.
Is the freephone with 18185 not chargeable with Sky?

I am still with BT till 27/11/13 - I thought this was Primus CPS.

Once i move to Sky, i do understand that will end.
Will the 08081703703 with 18185 still be chargeable with Sky?
I heard that Sky bill you for it even when they shouldn't.

From Sky's own T&C 0800 and 0808 numbers are non chargeable, updated November 2013. http://www.sky.com/shop/terms-conditions/talk/code-of-practice/specialised-numbers/

Unfortunately I'm on virgin so can't confirm this for Sky.

The rate from 18185 for using the free-phone number is about 1p[/min higher to pay for the free call.
  • Ex O2 broadband customer, activated Sky BB with Line Rental, anytime, free caller display, free SR101 router and £40.00 in my account for £12.50 pm,noticed that anytime also includes 22 countries also, so I have ripped out my orchid dialler will dial mobiles on my monthly call allowance. Will hang on to the orchid just in case!
Thanks in particular to Heinz and Kevin for their hard work here.
    Best Regards Oldgit

1st Jan and my Orchid seems to be working OK (I'm with BT and 18181). Maybe the CPS will stop on the 4th Jan (at the same time as the price rise), or it's a holiday, so my dialler is using bt anyway?

Changes of years or bank holidays haven't previously affected orchids ???
