Thanks, that's a useful tip about the clock, and may explain why my Orchid box was not passing on the trueCall "call home" calls. I'd programmed my Orchid to pass 02 calls (which trueCall uses) directly through only at weekends, so if my clock had drifted far enough maybe it thought it was weekday, so diverting to other provider.

I've now corrected the clock, and put a routing code in specifically for the trueCall so it is always passed directly. From limited testing it now seems to work.

I just now need to find a usb modem to use with my Dell (inspiron 1520) laptop, I can't get the internal soft modem to dial out from the config spreadsheet.

Does anyone here know how long the Orchid Dialler will retain it's settings after being disconnected from both the incoming phone line and it's (optional) external power supply?
I've been unable to get a modem working so will have to hand reprogram it.
  • My Orchid has never had any power but it has been unplugged from the phone line. Not sure how long, but perhaps it was just minutes.

Anyway, it's never lost any data. It just carries on working regardless

My Orchid dialler is the non-powered variety. However, when disconnected from the phone line - even if only momentarily - it does not lose any programming data but the clock always needs to be reset.

I vaguely recall that the Orchid has some sort of rechargeable battery, or supercapacitor, that will hold the memory for a short time, maybe a few hours, (for example if there was a fault on the line and no power was coming down it) but what if left disconnected for a month or more? There must be a reason why they offered the optional external power supply.
I don't have any of the original documentation or specs of the device.

I am still using the Orchid with a TrueCall, my daughter is using Orchid with a BT handset with Call Guardian.

    Both working fine.

    Edit:add True call phone home.

I never got the Truecall call home to work via orchid, so plugged it directly into a doubler in the wall socket to update the phone list from the website. However I never continued the subscription so now add numbers to the Truecall via the phone handset.

Personally I would buy the BT Call Guardian instead - slightly simpler rules, but still good enough to stop most scam calls.
  • I managed to get my trueCall Call Blocker working via my Orchid Dialler by adding two new entries into the Routing Code Table to allow the tC unit to dial out for it's Weblink sessions:
    *###0208940#3000#24#
    *###0208948#3000#25#
(I'd noticed that it had tried to use two different phone numbers at different times, there may be more). I wonder if the tCall unit still tries to dial out even after you have discontinued you subscription (the tC server just checks and hangs up) or have Weblink calls been disabled in the tCall unit.

I had to "tidy up" all of my phone wiring to get the tCall unit working reliably, and while doing this removed the Orchid box. Now the tCall seems to be working better it's time to reconnect the Orchid, but it's been disconnected for a month, so don't know if all of it's setting are intact.

Try it and see I guess (after updating the clock as someone else has pointed out).
